My gut says hanifin will say he’s not coming back . If he was coming back I’m not sure why his agent would wait a couple days to meet with management. If it was me and I decided to re-sign I would want my agent and flames working on an extension immediately. My guess is his agent will give conroy a list of teams he would be interested doing a sign and trade with.

Conroy probably has deals lined up too. They've had a ton of time to work up contingencies. Even if you're pot committed to keeping the player, there has to be a back up plan. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Similar to the chucky trade.
Yeah this for me too... I hope the list he provides if he doesn't re-sign is more than 2 or 3 teams. The couple of times the Flames have had to trade a guy with that kind of limited market the return has been brutal

Ideal situation is he resigns for 8 and we are competitive in 2-3 years.

Plan B, exactly what you said.

I have my doubts that the list would be more than 3 teams

Det, Boston, FLA, Rangers, Isles, Caps. I can see him signing to all of them.

Treliving gave a fourth for Fantenberg lol

You can get that first from him. Anyone who has been around Tanev loves him

Yes please. Not to Ottawa or anywhere else where they will extend him.

I hope to see him and Zadorov back next year!

I hope Conroy holds onto Tanev until he gets that 1st. No need to rush on this one.

I think there kind of is actually unless you sit him and use bubble wrap.

Wonder if Graham Clarke is a target for Conroy. PPG Center in the AHL and 22 years old.

Nope, I would reduce is minutes but still showcase him. Worse case scenario if he gets hurt is you extend him. I don't think it is fair to the player to sit him out this early.

Agreed, and he happens to be one of the most durable players in the league, especially since the Flames acquired him.

I feel conflicted. Him gone leaves a big hole which likely needs filling with essentially a Hanifin. But, at the same time, 8x7.5m just feels too much for realistically a steady, but not flashy 2nd pairing D-man. However, then I go back to his age and he's in his prime basically...

I guess at the end of the day, it'll be based on either contract or returned assets (duh) before we can have any certain feelings about it all, but I sure would feel better if his contract started with a 6, or if his return nets us a potential 1st line center.
