Point being for the Flames to move him, salary cap shouldn't be an issue to faciltate that trade. Teams would have a whole season and offseason to figure out how they make the cap work long-term with him.

I'm all for signing Lindholm but it'll be at the expense of Kadri. As other have said there no way they can have x amount of long term highly paid vets.

If I were GM, if Lindholm wanted to stay I get him signed and then move Kadri and Backlund. What does that do to the Flames center depth? Not a whole lot IMO.
.just gives some really good situations to Ruzicka and Zary. Plus whoever the Flames draft.

Of all the players we should accept having a long term contract, Lindholm Is the 1st name on that list.

Now if he won't commit before the draft. You have to move him. There's no twinkle toeing around the asset management.

Everyone talks about our Center depth being up the creek but people are sleeping on Coronato.

I still think we see him traded as we likely can't pay both what Lindholm asks and Kadri what we are already and still have room to flesh out the roster.

I'm speculating:
- Lindholm traded at or before the draft, for mostly futures
- Kadri in a 1A role with Backlund 1B this year, see who has chemistry but similar icetime.
- As soon as the following year we see a young C (Zary/acquisition/this year's pick) start taking on some top6 minutes, heavily supported by the wingers as far as production, Backlund dips back down to the shutdown/3rd line
- A year or two later we dip back into the FA market picking up an early 30s C to support the younger top6 C & Kadri, as Backlund's career wraps up.

Essentially the retool approach.

Are you saying you could see him at C or just think he's a great piece in the cupboard that isn't getting much attention?

Oh I'm not. But there's guys naturally fitting at the spot in the #2 or 3 spot if they have to make room for Lindholm. Coronato could easily slide in. I'm just saying that signing lindholm is totally do-able, just will take a couple sacrifices to get it done.

Coronato has been playing C for a while now.

Chances are good he continues at the position. He may very well be Backlund's replacement if the team has to pay up to keep Lindholm.

I guess Conroy might view things differently, but Treliving said as recently as last season that they viewed Coronato as a winger.

I really don’t think they would throw him to the wolves at center in his rookie season. If anything they will want him to play with Backlund.

Haven't the Flames said they see Coronato more as a winger?

I would be extremely surprised to see Coronato at C. There’s not too many 5’10” centers in the league, and wasn’t he converted to C just this past year? It’s a pretty hard position to play, especially without much experience.

Insider trading:

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/insider...rlsson~2708892

TSN Trade bait list:
1. Dubois
2. Hellebuyck
3. DeBrincat
4. Scheifele
5. Karlsson
6. Pesce
7. Hanifin
8. Konecny
9. Gibson
10. Laughton

Karlsson and Sharks are on same page- tryting to get a trade done.
Karlsson wants to play for a contender and Sharks are re-building.
Question is there a team that can eat enough of that contract or if the Sharks can eat enough.
Karlsson has a last say with his NMC

Sens have opted for salary arbitration with DeBrincat setting the clock for him to be traded before the arbitration case because he is most valuable if he signs a multi-year deal.
Johnston believes Sens will push to get trade done by the draft.
Very strong interest from small list of teams that DeBrincat provided

Lots of options for Goalies right now.
Big names like Gibson and Helleybuck on trade market.
UFAs like Hill and Jarry.
Korpisalo and Talbot veterans.
Bold move would be to offer sheet Swayman but Boston likely match.

Canes would prefer to sign Pesce to extension but if they can't they will move him.
Among the teams interested is Buffalo and Edmonton.

Oilers focused on D and bargain top 6 forward.
Need to create cap space.
Likely Ceci, Foegele, Yamamoto maybe on the move

Barbashev open to testing free agent market
Had a great time in Vegas, but he knows that there isn't strong free agent market.

Leafs are still uncertain on whether Treliving can participate in the draft.
Trying to convince the Flames to let him.

Can the Flames ask for compensation to be allowed. Say in the form of a pick?

Probably using it as leverage in a Nylander trade.

Hopefully Todd started giving fake scouting reports in January when things looked like they were going south...

The deal should've been that he has to sit locked in a room without a cell phone or a computer for the entire draft.
