I messed up. The Hart Trophy bonus has no effect on team cap.

Is that one or two 4 hour banner raising ceremonies?

I remember when Iginla was in his prime, and the discussion in the media for several seasons was that a player whose team doesn't make the playoffs wouldn't have a realistic chance to win the Hart.
Edmonton didn't make the playoffs this year, and Drasaitl wins? The bar has been lowered.

Makes the voters that much more stupid to expect the Oilers to win.

Sounds like an opportunity for another Sportsnet special.

Yeah that’s pretty tough to explain.
Real interesting how the big 3 awards went to players on teams who couldn’t advance past the play in round. Having the best season hasn’t meant much lately in the lost season. Last year the big 3 won a combined 1 playoff game but atleast their teams had exceptional regular seasons.

J.T. Miller got a fifth place vote.

The thing is, one of those people is Greg Wyshinski, and he had one of the more reasonable ballots in the whole thing, with Panarin and Hellebuyck 1-2. I would disagree with him not having MacKinnon 3rd but it's still at least rationally thought out. Especially when you have a bunch of US beat writers who basically go to NHL.com's stats page and sort by points.
I mean, in Mark Spector's case, and cases like that, I agree with you - he clearly intentionally put MacKinnon 5th to deny him points so that Draisaitl was more likely to win. But there are plenty of other reasons to take Spector's credentials away before you get to that.

No stupider than having Panarin there, as 17 people apparently did.
There are just some really dumb people voting on this, is the long and short of it.

Edmonton Oilers 71 games 83 points (+12) top 3 scorers
Draisaitl 71 GP 43 G 67 A 110 PTS -7
McDavid 64 GP 34 G 64 A 97 PTS -6
Nugent Hopkins 61 points
Colorado Avalanche 70 games 92 points (+22) top 3 scorers
Mackinnon 69 GP 35 G 58 A 93 PTS +13
Makar 50 GP 12 G 38 A 50 points
Burakovsky 45 points
ok I disagree with Draisaitl, fine. but how can multiple people justify McDavid as more VALUABLE than MacKinnon for this past season?

Somebody added Adam Fox to the all rookie forward list.
Jonathan Willis and Matt Vensel both left MacKinnon off their Hart ballots.
