De-nuclearization my ass, kim will never give up his bombs, he and his family aren't stupid, he knows nobody can be trusted (see Russia in Ukraine) or (the USA for Gaddafi),it's the only hole-card he has.

Like his father did 25 years ago with his promises to Clinton to abandon his nuclear program this is just to extort money and stroking Trumps ego will make it happen.

I think that this is a PR stunt and that unless China is really willing to shake this regime up (maybe the DPRK stays and the Kims go) then this will amount to a nothing burger (nothing kimchee?)
This article talks about this. https://www.38north.org/2018/05/cwork050818/

considering the positive talks between the nations, wouldn't it have been wise for the US and south Korea to suspend or postpone the war games?

did they really have to run them at this time? they basically shouted to north Korea that it's business as usual.

true.
just seems like a provocation for no good reason.

although the talks came about so quickly I perhaps the military of each country decided that they've spent to much time and money not to go ahead.

Did NK ask them to postpone them? Or did they just up and say this? The exercises are planned waaay in advance, NK knew about them. But they've used such exercises for this kind of thing before, so I suspect it's the latter, and just NK trying to keep driving the process.

Might work too, Trump can feel the Nobel slipping from his little fingers, be interesting to see the reaction.

At first I didn't see that this was a bump, and I was so confused.

I agree. Eating your pets to survive is a pretty short step to a coup of some kind. I think that even with the indoctrination of the people, support for the Kim's must be pretty low right now.

I have my doubts that the Army is going to throw a coupe, they first of all benefit greatly from the Kim's. They get everything that they want. Second there's the ongoing and continuous war between internal intelligence and the military means that leadership on both sides are too busy looking over their shoulders to plan an over throw.

Plus the NK's have an abundance of anti-aircraft shells.

Is starting a new thread against the law? and if you’re going to bump, put the newest bump post number in the thread title or something. I despise the CP bad habit of ancient bumps and then you have to go searching for where the news is. Easily and by far the worst aspect of this website.

I agree on a very basic level that it doesn't make sense to have wealthy people owning dogs as pets while poor people starve in a country where dogs have long been a source of meat. I could see it being a pretty big trigger for dissent.

The sad thing is that North Korea has a lot of resources, technology, a large labour force, and shares a border with three of the world's largest markets. They could do so well if not for the Kim dynasty.

Yup, it’s all self inflicted and it’s a humanitarian crisis.
