It's still very good news in the sense that at least it controls prices for CPUs, especially AMD ones, while everyone is still paying out the nose (albeit to a lesser extent than before) for their GPU.

Hey guys I was thinking about putting my system for sale, and upgrading... so I was wondering what do you guys think is a fair price for my system:
CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1050-Ti 4GB
MB: Cyberpower's modified ASRock B360M Pro4(they called it B360M Xtreme)
Ram: 16GB(DDR4 3200), XMP is disabled so runs at 2666
HD: 512GB nvme ssd
PSU: 600W
Thank you for your help!

Might be time to upgrade to 12th gen for me. Need faster build times.

Intel did take a huge step with the current generation. The problem with 12th gen is that intel didn’t commit to making the motherboards compatible with the next generation. Also, ddr 5 is going to cost you an arm and a leg right now, to the point you’ll likely be better off getting a ddr 4 board, and then upgrading it when ddr 5 gets better and cheaper.
I’d wait until I see AMD’s offering first. What are you running right bow? Faster build times means mostly compile times or are you going for a different use case?

Compile times.
I'm not too concerned with having to upgrade later again. My time is worth more.

In that case enjoy, just make sure you have a good cooler on it. I think the consensus is that you need a 360 aio for a 12900k. You’ll also want want some headroom in your psu as that’s a ~300w cpu.
EDIT: just wanted to add that if you’re on a 5950x already for example you’re not likely to feel a difference in compile times.

Aren't the new M1 Pro/Max chips beasts when it comes to compiling code?

I have no idea as far as compiling, but I'm pretty sure that both Intel and AMD flagship CPUs have them beat. I'm basing it based on benchmarks such as Geekbench where the 12900k was approximately 1.5 times faster in multi-core performance. I'm sure Apple has better performance per watt in its cpus.

If anyone has any leads on some DDR5 RAM please let me know. Amazon lost my RAM shipment so I'm stuck at the moment. Rest of the parts are coming on Tuesday from memory express.
It's time to retire the i7-3770k, it's been good for so long.
New build incase anyone was curious.
CPU: Intel i7-12700k
Heatsink: Thermaltake 310 or old EVGA AIO (if compatible)
Motherboard: PRIME Z690-P
RAM: Was 2x16GB Corsair CT16G48C40U5
Storage: 1TB WD_BLACK SN850
2 TB Seagate Barracuda 120 SSD
2 TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM (reuse)
Video Card: EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 Ultra
Power Supply: Corsair RM750x Silent 80+ Gold ATX

Total cost? Interested to get a sense of what a new build like that would run me if I wanted to do it.

All prices with tax included (first build in 10 years for me)
Video card was $900 bought it in the summer. (Made this not hurt as much)
Mobo/RAM/Nvme drive/CPU/heatsink/Power Supply was $1650
I got the 2TB SSD for free on a warranty claim for an older firecuda drive
If you want a better breakdown I can do that but not until after we beat the habs

No real benchmarking, but compiling our mobile app and starting the simulator is almost instantaneous now whereas before it used to take * minutes *

DDR5 out of stock everywhere I checked. It's a good build, but you might want to go with a DDR4 MB as a stopgap, if you could return yours that is. You won't be missing on that much performance out of the gate (usually about 5% performance, but in some applications it can be as high as 20%).
The supply might stabilize rather quickly, but it just seems like another opportunity for scalpers to make money.

Thanks for checking, I’m going to wait it out. I managed to get on the pre order list for 2x8GB sticks so I’ll just hope it doesn’t get lost in the mail as well.

Who's the best follow for GPU stock at this point? Trying to get my hands on a 3060-Ti.

We're in the market for a new laptop. Our previous one is 7 years old, so time for an upgrade. The old one has a HDD and it's about time we get an SSD. We hate how slow the old laptop is.
We don't need much computing power - browsing internet, word and excel. At most, I might download Red Alert 2 and maybe play it.
Thinking a 10th gen should suffice. I3 vs i5, probably lean towards the i3. Any good recommendations?

First, what's your budget?
Secondly, don't get an i3, you can step up to an i5 for not much more and the i5 comes with the new Intel Iris Xe onboard graphics while the i3 is still stuck with the legacy Intel HD Graphics. If you want this new laptop to last anything like seven years without slowing down to an infuriating crawl near the end of it, skip the i3.

Budget is between 600 and 800. Everything I'm looking at is near the high end. Was kind of hoping black Friday deals would bring it down to closer to 600.

Something like this? https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/dell...511_sb_h6013pe
$279 off brings it to $699, which is pretty decent for those specs. 512GB SSD is a nice touch (changing the specs kicks it back to non-sale pricing, I tried).
