Is the Lido Cafe still around?

I loved the Lido.

Vendome Cafe is also currently closed for renovations, opening up again in March.

Sad.
It was sad to see Lido go, its been a staple in the area for so long. Plus I miss the 7.38 big breakfast.

Rumor is Osteria is next to go - it'll return once the new condo is built.

Did I hear that development application was rejected?

http://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Pages/C...lications.aspx

Osteria de Medici Development has submitted two applications to The City of Calgary to amend the land use (also referred to a land use redesignation or rezoning) for a site at 201 – 10 Street N.W. The proposed land use would allow for taller buildings with increased density to be built on the site.

The first land use application (LOC2012-0010) for this site was approved in 2013.

The second land use application (LOC2013-0097) for this site proposes to change zoning to a Direct Control (DC) District using the Commercial - Corridor 1 District with a floor area ratio of 7.0 (this means the total square footage of all floor areas within new buildings on the site can be up to seven times the total square footage of the property) and a maximum height of 36.0 metres (approximately 11 storeys). This constitutes increasing the maximum floor area and the building height of the site beyond the maximums allowed in the Hillhurst/Sunnyside Area Redevelopment Plan. The area redevelopment plan allows for a maximum floor area ratio of 5.0 and a building height of 26.0 metres (approximately eight storeys).

City staff are currently working with community representatives and developers on a new community engagement and stakeholder feedback process.

Julio's is a franchise out of Edmonton. I'm told by a couple of sources that most of the entrees are made in Edmonton, frozen there, and sent to Calgary to be re-heated.

Go for the margaritas, not the food. Summer patio is decent.

Are they taking over the space from that furniture place that just closed?

It wouldn't surprise me. The food there is pretty pedestrian. I wish it was still Red Robin.

Hmm, good question. They definitely could fill that space too during the busy times.

Are there any Red Robin's left in Calgary?

Ah interesting!

I wonder what will open up in the old source building. Hopefully nothing to drive the Oak Tree away.

The hours of the stores are lame and the area would be a lot better if there wasn't so much 9-5 businesses.

If you're ever down in the south, there's still a Broken Plate open in Willowpark, just next to Southcentre. Worked there for years, and it was always the best quality of any of the BP's. And yes, they still have the lamb shank (kleftiko). Delicious.

My vote for best patio in Kensington is Molly Malones:

Seems to be where all the local industry people hang out too.

I went to a private stampede party there once on a friday night. It was on the patio. The police showed up b/c of noise complaints from neighbours.

Still think that is odd.

The oak tree won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Definitely one of the hidden gems in kensington these days.

The source has been renovated into another dining room for osteria.
