Default LWOS 2018 NHL Draft Thread

With no first round pick, I figured the first few prospects wouldn't really be relevant on a Calgary board.

We are 20 players deep now though, so if the Flames try to get a pick, or if someone slips, it could be the start of guys worth looking at.

Here is the new draft headquarters.

Could I put in a request for a bit on the Johnny Gaudreau's and Matthew Phillips' of the draft (AKA the longshot "Home-Run or Strike-Out Swing" late round picks).

We certainly will get to those.

I think when you get to the 4th round or later though, there are many home-run or strike out swing picks though. Thats the reality of those rounds. Players who have a few good traits but are also lacking. Even NHL scouts can't predict which ones will make it as if they could they wouldn't fall that late.

That said some names to keep an eye on Liam Foudy, Aidan Dudas, Albert Michnac, Xavier Bouchard.

If Curtis Douglas (The big guy in the draft) or Aidan Dudas (the small guy in the draft) fell to the 4th round, that would be great! I think they will go before the Flames pick though. Xavier Bernard seemed to have a really good year and fell in the final NHL central scouting list, but I don't think he will still be available either.

Linus Nyman and Justin Almeida put up some big numbers respectively, with Justin Almeida showing a lot of improvement from last year. They are older guys in the draft though.

Guys I would like to hear more opinions about who I think would be available for Calgary's picks would be Joey Keane, Merrick Rippon, Ryan Chyzowski, Paul Cotter, Austin Wong and Cedric Desruisseaux (another smaller player).

Ryan Chyzowski really improved on his previous season, and his father played in the NHL.

Joey Keane really improved on his previous season and ended his season with a pretty high +/-. He wasn't listed on the mid year NHL central scouting list, but ended ranked #111 for NA skaters.

Austin Wong was a point per game player in the AJHL and ended the year with 235 PIMS. It looks like he will be joining Adam Fox in Harvard next year.

Cedric Desruisseaux is listed as 5'7 and 151lbs. He had 3 points in 10 games last season in the QMJHL and improved to 24 goals and 46 points in 64 games this year.

I think with the picks Calgary has, I am hoping for:

105: Joey Keane
107: Ryan Chyzowski
167: Paul Cotter
198: Austin Wong

Wong would be an interesting pick

I'd love to see/hear more about him

He plays a similar abrasive style of a Sean Avery/Darcy Tucker, with less playmaking abilities at this stage of his development.

I'm a little sad the Flames won't get a shot at little brother McLeod.

I'll take a bio on Albin Eriksson when you have it. Most intrigued player I've come across on lists. Seems like 2nd rounder. Maybe Calgary can get up there in a trade.

I don't have him in my second round.

Haven't done my list for the third yet (at least ordering them). Will let you know though.
