I flew Emirates A380 from Gatwick to Dubai this spring, and I'll tell you the experience is the same inside it too. Sat 4th row lower level, but by far ruined any economy class ticketing for me for life. The aircraft was so quiet, so smooth (sheer size alone), and the service and comfort on that plane was incredible. Didn't want that 7 hour flight to end! Some neat points were the cameras, one on the tail, one underbelly, and one in the nose that you could watch throughout the flight, I have a video of the tail camera on our takeoff. The dedicated cleaning staff on the flight, bathrooms cleaned every 2 hours. The (included) meal service was also exceptional considering how used to "pre purchase or nothing" on WS or Iceland Air transatlantics, or the charters to anywhere else I've become. Free wifi internet. And all for the same price as any other flight.

I happened to see this plane back in May 2013 at Schiphol on my way to Istanbul

Or approximately 1/7th of a new arena.

Is it just a coincidence that the registration is FYRC?

Not from the links, but a corporate pilot here in YYC says it is indeed his bird, with Sunwest operating it for him.

How did no one die? That looks much worse than I expected.

Incredibly fortunate those trees do not appear to be very big. They may have almost acted like shock absorbers and gradually slowed the plane, relatively speaking.

Agreed. Look at the impacts on the leading edges of the wings.

I agree, this has got to be one of the best news stories to come out lately.

Delta started operating the Boeing 717 on the MSP-YYC flight a few days ago. I believe this is the first time we've ever had the type in YYC, video of the inaugural flight:

It likely would be as the 717 was a massive flop.

156 were build, with production stopping in 2006.

It's weird that Airbus and Boeing can't seem to produce a successful regional airliner (the A318 had 80 sales for a combined total of 236 between Boeing and Airbus; in comparison Bombardier's Q400 has 561 deliveries with 49 unfilled orders (as of September 30, 2017).

If you haven't stumbled upon Wendover Production's YouTube channel, it's really quite interesting:

RIP tail 833's winglet at YYZ tonight after Sunwing backed into them and caught fire.

I didn't know this. Delta just retired their last 747, there are no more North America airlines that use a 747 in passenger service (charters excepted). I also did not realize there are fewer than 200 left in service worldwide and that number will surely drop steadily. Bit of a sad day in aviation really.
