Kane was drafted at 4 and Kadri at 7 in 2009. No question in my mind the Leaf's would have interviewed and talked with Kane a number of times and that Burke is somewhat familiar with his character.
The fact that there are even rumors about the Flames and Kane, means that at least Burke didn't put him on his "do not draft list" and isn't adverse to taking a shot at him .
I for one think the off ice stuff is overblown and that he would be a pretty good fit barring we don't give up the farm for him.

Even if his attitude wasn’t a concern and you can convince yourself the risk of losing him for nothing at years end is worth the acquisition cost, I can’t find anything to suggest he has played RW, which is the only place we would benefit most from an upgrade. What would be the point in adding another top 6 LW if it cost us in any other area?
The only big move I’d like to see this season is for someone that’s a clear upgrade and unquestionable 1st line RW. So even if Kane is comfortable playing on the right side, I don’t think he’s enough of an upgrade on Ferland to be worth the cost.

Artemi Panarin-ish deal, 2 x 6.0.

I think the acquisition cost will likely be high and signing him will be expensive. Because of those two factors I'm a bit skeptical he lands here but if the deal made sense I'd be for it. I think the character issues are overblown and hes having a great season. Insert him into a lineup with talent where games mean something and I think he could definitely help the team.

I understand the interest but after the Hamonic trade I just don't know if the team can afford to give up another 1st round pick or their top prospects for a pending UFA. It's just too much to give up as I don't know if this team is close enough to being a true cup contender to be selling out for the cup this season. I just don't see the fit unless they can negotiate a deal with Kane prior to making the trade but how much do you want to risk on this guy long term given a somewhat rocky history?

can he hit an empty net!
I kid I kid
honestly though the guy can score, this team has to work way to hard to score goals

Can't possibly see why the Flames would be interested in him. I mean the Flames' PP is humming now that Versteeg is out, we have a ton of scoring depth at forward, we're a nasty team to play against and we aren't all in to make the playoffs this year. No need for a guy like Kane with this franchise, nosiree.

Flames need scoring, Kanes a scorer. I can see a hockey trade for down where Kane is an add in but the Flames get another cost controlled player in return. Treliving simply does not have the assets for a rental deadline day trade. He blew his load already.

Kane could be part of something bigger of course too.
ROR is there too.
Hamilton(s)?
Backlund?

I am pretty sure it would have to be around Frolik going the other way, most likely with a top prospect like Valimaki added. Not sure if I like such a trade for the Flames.

You think Buffalo does a 1 for 1 trade? Because I doubt they would want just Frolik. They might do it for Ferland+ prospect, but again seems like it does more harm than good.

If we can package Brouwer in a trade for kane count me in. Buffalos one of the only teams that would take on a contract like that for building blocks

obviously not...just saying I wouldn't do that package
Kane is far better offensively than Ferland or Frolik though
