Default What should the lineup be for the rest of the season?

It's over and everyone knows it (even if Brad won't say it publically)

Now the Flames have 7 games left to get a head start on next season that some other teams don't have. Now, the Flames aren't exactly an organization that takes advantage of their advantages, but it's fun to pretend.

First, I can the whole coaching staff. Replace em with anybody.

Second, I shut down the injured players. Monahan/Tkachuk/Brodie/Smith are all done for the year.

Third, I use the Flames two remaining call ups on Foo and Kylington.

Fourth, I free Backlund from his purely defensive role and let him display some offense that the team desperately needs.

Fifth, Brouwer has played his last game as a Flame.

So, forward lineup:

Gaudreau-Backlund-Bennett
Ferland-Shore-Frolik
Versteeg-Jankowski-Foo
Lazar-Stajan-Hathaway
Brouwer, Stewart, Glass

Everyone but Gaudreau and Backlund will be evaluated almost wholly on give-a-#### level because most of those players should not be comfortable calling themselves NHLers right now.

Sixth, I plan for significant changes to the d-men over the summer and evaluate the heck out of Andersson and Kylington. They should be more than ready by now. This also gives a chance to test Hamilton's ability to carry a pair.

Giordano-Andersson
Kylington-Hamilton
Kulak-Hamonic
Stone, Bartkowski

Seventh, I send Rittich back to Stockton to carry them to the playoffs with the understanding that he will be the backup goalie next year, 100%. He displayed enough this year for me to be comfortable in saying that.

Gillies
Emergency call up (Parsons/McDonald/Schneider)

It might be a little drastic, and I do hate to bench Stone because he has been a good soldier (maybe move Hamilton to #1 RW to make room on the backend if we want to go full nuthouse), but that's what I would do.

Aren't we down to one call up left?

A team gets 4, Rittich and Andersson make two, so two left afaik.

Gillies and Glass aren't callups, they're locked in to the NHL roster.

Put the coaching staff on the ice and tell them to play The System.

Shutdown anyone injured (Monahan, Tkachuk, Brodie, Smith)
Shutdown terrible NHLers (Hathaway, Brouwer, Glass, Bartkowski) who have had ample time to prove they belong in the AHL.
Split up Giordano and Hamilton to spread out the offensive capability of the D-pairs.
Split up Frolik and Backlund to spread out the two-way middle six presence.
Call up Kylington, Foo, Gillies, and Klimchuk
Have Stone and Andersson alternate at the #6/#7 RD spot.
Have Rittich start the rest of the year outside of any back to backs.

Gaudreau-Bennett-Ferland
Klimchuk-Backlund-Shore
Frolik-Jankowski-Versteeg
Lazar-Stajan-Foo

Giordano-Hamonic
Kulak-Hamilton
Kylington-Stone/Andersson

Rittich
Gillies

This is what I want to see. I don't care if we lose 4-5 every night as long as we don't lose 0-2 or 0-3 or 0-4.

But Glen Gulutzan is our coach.

No offense to the OP, but it literally does not matter. Play Glass and Bartkowski for all I care.

For one, it doesn't matter.

For two, Gulutzan probably knows his time is up. So I don't know what incentive he has to test new lines for next year.

Unfortunately, we're probably going to see this team just go through the motions for the last 7 games.

Saying I don't care would be a lie. I want as many points as possible. Get those lottery odds lower.

I think that it does matter. Time to evaluate the bubble players against NHL calibre talent. Shutdown injured players, call up your last 2 and move guys up the roster.

Agree mostly with the OP. If we are going to be active on the trade front, we need to know who can play at what level.

And those are games I would actually watch. Playing out the string with the current lines, and the dome will be empty.

Stockton has 11 games left and are currently just on the outside looking in. I don't think you cannibalize that roster any further since playoffs games are pretty good for developing players. If you can get a player up for an NHL game between the AHL games, then go for it.

Valimaki and Dube are going head to head in the first round and if it goes 7 games, will be over April 3rd. Would not mind getting one of those guys into one of the final two games before going to Stockton. Plus it doesn't count as a call up.

I think this is a great time to bring up as few guys to audition them for next season. The call-ups will insert some energy in the lineup.

I guess until the Flames are mathematically eliminated, the injured players will still play
