If Winnipeg hadn't come back to win their final game of the season that year (and the lottery had played out exactly the same), Laine would have been a Flame.
If the Flames had lost their last game, they would have finished below Columbus and had the third overall pick (assuming the same lottery results). In that case, either Puljujarvi or Tkachuk would be a Flame depending on what Treliving/Button's preference was.

I was looking at the league schedule for the final week of the season and everyone we really are jostling with now will be playing eachother. The last week:
Avs Ducks
Avs Kings
Stars Sharks
Wild Ducks
Avs Sharks, Wild Kings
Stars Ducks
Ducks Yotes, Blues Avs, Stars Kings, Wild Sharks
Even right before the final week there’s Wild Stars home and home, and Kings Ducks.
I think it benefits us to have everything tight as possible at that point. If one or more teams fall out they likely become fodder for their opponent and free points.
We play Jets and VGK our last two games, and as some have pointed out we might get them resting some key players if they’re locked into their position.
Stay in the race til April and we have a shot!

Nicklas Backstrom with the goal. Grubauer is in net again for the Capitals as Holtby has not been playing well on this road trip.

The Wild are six points back of the Jets and the Jets are six points back of the Predators. It could be the Jets that catch the Predators.

The Bruins offense was strong again as they won 7-4. Their specialty teams are also in high gear, 3 power play goals and one shorthanded goal.
The Lightning win 4-3 in the shootout. The win maintains Tampa Bay's six point lead on the Bruins for first place in the eastern conference.
