The KHL is fixed this season
First I've read of this, found it an interesting if disturbing read... Seems that the KHL hierarchy, referees and Putin are conspiring to ensure SKA wins the title this season and not really attempting to hide it much.
This undermines the credibility of this league in a major way at a time when teams are already hesitating to draft players coming up through their system.

The KHL had credibility before?
It has been a second rate league since its inception even though they get a couple of Russias best players taking a spin later in their careers.
$$ talks but that doesn't mean that entire fiasco of a league hasn't been corrupt since day 1. This is just more of the same, although more blatant.
Good work though Sporty. Hockey fans need to know how bad this organization is and how deep the muck runs.
Remember when there were claims that the "K" was a legitimate option for players during lockouts? Like they were a threat to completely undermine the NHL. Good times.

I hope the Russian guy - the original source that Sportak retweeted, Slava Malamud - doesn't actually live in Russia for his sake.

Did you think it was going to outpace the NHL and become first rate at its inception? The KHL was always going to be 2nd best, and it still is 2nd best. Russians are corrupt, as are 99% of European sports leagues. You sound surprised.

Am I surprised? Not even a little bit.
Many here, and elsewhere, clamored for years that it was a threat to the NHL however. That was laughable at every turn.

I mean honestly, I see worse calls than that in the NHL on a pretty frequent basis.
The whole tweet reads like a bit of a reach. Sure, there may be extremely preferential treatment to that team, but I guess I would expect it to a certain degree in that league. There has been cases of preferential treatment in the NHL before too (see: Detroit circa mid-90s through 2000s), but not made quite as obvious.
While we love to hate Russia and Putin specifically, this seems like a bit of a non-story.

But is this really anything worse than what the NHL is doing to keep the Oilers *from* winning it all?

Interesting topic. Also interesting that threads over at HF on this topic keep getting deleted by the mods. Not even locked. Just plain erased from the server. From what I read over there, the author of the original tweets is some Putin critic, recently was fired from the newspapers and started those tweets immediately afterwards. Apparently his credibility is zero.
Posters over there are saying it's a tinfoil hat conspiracy theory made by a wack job Putin critic with an agenda. CP saying it's just another day in Russia. So which is it? I'm learning towards just another day in Russia. Not at all surprised by this. Russia doesn't get the benefit of a doubt anymore. KHL is run like bloody joke, although they do have some talented and great players.

I thought so too but did you notice it went to replay. On replay that is VERY obviously offside. Nevertheless, I'm not sure the "Fix" was in, but would it really surprise anyone? This is the same country where Putin goes out with KHL stars and gets 50 goals and people treat it as legit. They are N. Korea lite.
Curious to see Pointman's take on this.
