Default Let's Talk Dishwasher Repairs

We have an Amana ABD1700ADW2 dishwasher.

It's not cleaning the dishes. It's getting water, and you can hear the cycles running. It appears that the arms aren't spraying. The sides and top have some condensation on it but the door is still kinda dirty and not clean like it normally would be.

We've run CLR through it, ensured the jets in the spinning arm aren't blocked.

The filters are clean.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Is it getting hot? Mine didn't clean well, and it turned out the heater element was dead.

If you are sure the arms aren't spinning then maybe the water pathway is clogged somewhere, preventing enough pressure. You'd have to start disassembling to check that.

I don't know if the arms are spinning or not. Maybe there is a clog somewhere.

Gonna have to try and figure out how to determine that.

Pulling a dishwasher out isn't all that hard, just make sure to turn the water and power off. I'd then lay it on it's back and take off any hoses you can that have hose clamps and see if there is any obvious clog. Does it sound like the pump is running? I once had a tooth pick clog the pump impeller.

It's going to look something like this, so it isn't all that complicated.

Oh, also make sure the drain line to the sink is elevated properly.

Sounds similar to what I went throughast year. I replaced the water inlet valve on mine to get mine running. A few months later the motor died.. or some part that was going to cost halt the price of a new machine.

You give some guy that arrives in a van about 200 bucks to tell you the repair will cost around 100 bucks less than the cost of replacing the whole thing but he cant be sure if some other part which costs just as much will die a few months down the road, at which point you go buy a new one.

Bumping, as today I had the opportunity to pull the whole thing out, check the hoses and run the shop vac.

It looks like the spinning arms aren't shooting water.

My wife is now on me to call a repair person, but given the cost of dishwashers I'm leaning to just getting a new one.

Before I do, any thoughts on how to get the jets in the spinning arms working?

Can you take the arms off? There has to be a blockage somewhere before the arm.

I’ve used pipe cleaners, tweezers and a syringe to clean them out.
