Is Halifax too far of a drive? There is YHZ to YHH with Flair for those dates. Then maybe have to take the train for the rest of the ride.

4-4.5 hours. I've check that and Moncton as well. Flair's prices for those dates aren't really any better. I'm trying to remember now, might be a $50 savings per person, which when you factor in gas alone it becomes more expensive.

I really do appreciate the thinking outside of the box!

Driving to YHZ was my first thought as well, Maritime... I have a friend that works at YHZ for WestJet and I messaged her; unfortunately said for those dates she wouldn't be able to do anything that you couldn't already find online.

Air Niugini 737 goes for a swim. Having flown with them I'm not surprised they had a mishap like this, but glad everyone survived.

ZERO economy seats.

Hard to believe there is enough of a market to warrant configuring 67 business class seats and 94 premium economy in a single aircraft.

IIROPS are gonna suck hard.

$1500 USD for the premium economy seats. Sort of pricey I guess.

Not really, they've run this before on a plane that burns way more gas and it was fine, only stopping because they kinda changed strategies and sold those airplanes. They know what they're doing, and now they have the absolute best plane in the world to run it, to boot.

Yup when they previously ran this route it was an all business class A340-500. Which imo is one the best proportioned airliners ever made (economics of it aside).

American Airlines flight from Dallas to Beijing had some drama yesterday afternoon over Alberta. While over northwest Manitoba they had a passenger medical situation and the decision was made to divert to Edmonton. On approach into Edmonton they then declared a mayday due to a mechanical issue with the aircraft, the crew then made the decision to divert to Calgary to utilize our new longer runway since the issue appeared to be with their flaps/slats (which allow the aircraft to slow down for landing). Little bit of flying around to deal with things and they did finally land on runway 17L.

Flight track:
https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...610Z/KDFW/CYYC

Video of the landing (note the very clean configuration of the wing, no flaps or slats down, also note the landing gear doors hanging down instead of flush with the belly of the aircraft, which could indicate hydraulic system problems).

American dispatched a rescue 787 from Dallas to take passengers on to Beijing today, pax spent the night in hotels here in Calgary. Apparently the medical passenger is ok.

Crazy stuff. It's always amazing to see the great circle route they take on these longer routes. This is the normal track:

Interesting. Whats the protocol when you have an international passenger in medical distress? I assume any visa requirements are thrown out the window?

Well they're not gonna let them die here at the airport because of a Visa issue, so... kind of thrown out, yeah.

But for the other guests...

I was talking to one of the customs people as they were waiting to deplane, we were delayed slightly on the way in due to the one runway being closed for a bit.

Not sure exactly what they do about lack of visas, but the customs guy mentioned it as being complicated, but evidently they have a way to manage it.

Of interest is the fact that nobody was transported from the plane by EMS for medical reasons upon arrival at YYC.
