A legit top line winger for under 6 years and $6mil and already isn't north of 33? Yes please. Hard to much much fault of any with this deal. Massive upgrade on Ferland and a great fit with Gaudreau and Monahan.
That's an exciting Flames line up.

Who the hell cares. Last year the Oilers were the team to beat for the Stanley Cup.

Team is completely different!

Doesn't matter. Gulutzan would take this new lineup and still turn it into boring, uninspired hockey.

I suppose it's possible Neal becomes the first player to be taken twice in expansion drafts

According to some NSH fans he was on a 40 goal pace playing with Johansen then got hurt and when he came back they bumped him down the lineup.

Absolutely love this signing.
If you’re going to overpay a bit on either AAV or term, you make sure that the guy you’re acquiring is a legitimate top 6 player, and Neal is just that.
He was a huge need for this team.

I love this deal. I'n not worried at all about the term. James Neal is still very much an NHL player at age 35. With the cap going up, his cap % will be a non factor. As much as some people wanted him on only a 3-4 year term, that's not happening for a UFA of his stature.

Is there going to be a presser today? Would love to hear from coach and gm on possible line combinations

Stone + Brouwer (Minor % retained) to Ottawa? They have a few picks they could deal — Pittsburgh 3rd + Ottawa 5th?

Ottawa is not taking on $7.5M in salary in exchange for picks

I don't agree with the 'trade Frolik' talk in the first place, but if we were looking at it for the sake of argument, another small tweener like Petan is exactly the opposite of what we should be going after.

the down town brown article? sound more like a push to me...
"I’m iffy on this one, so you could probably talk me into a slight nudge into the “winners” column."
i don't think anyone thinks Neal's term is great, but i think he's failed to add in the fact that there is no NMC on the contract... its a free player for calgary to bolster their top 6 and they can trade him any time they want to.
that's a win in my books

Why is he not back in Vegas??
They had amazing chemistry and results... and lots of cap space... that seems quite odd, to me.
Anyway, lucky for CGY!

After the Brouwer signing , which I loved at the time, I guess I soured on over 30 signings which has me worried about Neal. I’m hoping he’s more like Giordano than Brouwer. Treliving is gonna have nightmares if Chucky and Bennett have huge seasons. Can’t wait for the next season to start!

Can't argue against this, exactly what we needed. Would have been unrealistic to get a guy like this cheaper.
Only question remaining is whether Peters was the right coaching choice. This is a playoff roster.

Voted love it.
We needed a big mean SOB winger who knows how to score goals.
Not worried about the term because without any NMC he might be expansion bait, or if he really falls off IMO there will be compliance buy outs with the next lock out.

No way! Brad, is that you? Who are you and what did you do to our Brad?
I woke up to this news and it made my day! Ladies and gentlemen, we now officially have the legit first line.

This. Gaudreau has to be salivating at the opportunity to be feeding Neal and Mony for 82+ games.
Neal's size (6'2" and 220) is also a big plus for that line.
