Menthol vapor (vicks, tiger balm etc.) and hot bean bag to liquify prior to clearing out attempts (ie: nasal rinse) helps a ton.

They also help a ton for comfort at night. I also wear a neck warmer and I find I'm slightly less congested in the morning.

I also typically try to take as little medication as possible to get the body to fight it off properly, but for the last few weeks, I'm taking stuff so that I can sleep better at night so that the rest contributes to fighting off the illness faster.

This #### sucks. "Better" but with lingering side effects blows. Being "better/healthy enough" but still with a lingering cough that is serious enough to strain random muscles in the body is brutal.

Just more so a fyi - https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/health-of...otel-1.6187898 - in case anyone was at the events.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is investigating a number of cases of a contagious illness that could be connected to two social gatherings at a local hotel.

The agency told CTV News that the events at the Carriage House Inn, located at 9030 Macleod Trail South, occurred on Nov. 25 and Dec. 3.

An examination of the patients who became ill following the first event confirmed the presence of norovirus.

Testing is still ongoing on the attendees of the second event, but AHS inspectors are looking into the sanitization and food handling procedures of staff members.

Yikes. Carriage House is going to take a hit for that one for sure. SO many company Christmas parties are booked there every year.

My sore throat has been gone awhile, but Halloween was when it started to get scratchy. I still have bronchitis, but it is much milder now. Daughter is on round two of a fever cough thing. She got rid of the first cold 2 weeks ago and it's back with a vengeance.

If it was a norovirus, anyone who was there would definitely know if they got it by now. I had a norovirus a few years ago and it hit me and everyone else who was infected at the same party almost exactly 36 hours later. It was also the sickest I've ever been.

But why tho...?

The last time I was there I'm pretty sure I got Tetanus.

I can't believe how much time away from work I've missed. I've basically been a bum for the last 3 weeks

Don't sell yourself short. You've been a bum for longer than that.

Anybody experience this yet? I have had a dry, hacking, violent cough now for about 5 weeks with a short break in between. I almost only cough at night and when laying down or in bed. Don't feel sick, have no other symptoms etc. All sorts of cough suppressant does not work!

Normally I would wait it out but I am starting to wonder if its something more serious?

Thanks!

Asthma? Is it more difficult to breathe at night?

Had asthma as a kid but nothing in recent memory. Previously before Covid, when I got sick, I would have a cough and be short of breath.

This is weird, it's mostly only at night. Can't sleep and can't recover!

Maybe I borrow a puffer from my brother or something and see if it helps

Couple things that cant hurt: vacuum your bedroom and get a humidifier and air purifier. You could try drinking a coke or strong coffee just to see if it clears at night (maybe on a Friday lol) in the absence of a puffer.

But knut might have a point as well. I'm no doctor. Good luck!

“Go see a doctor” is always going to be good advice when dealing with an ailment that has stuck around for weeks, and asking the internet/borrowing prescription medication from others are always going to be terrible ideas.

Free healthcare and people would rather stay sick lol.

Agreed. Just seemed like curious symptoms. When I had asthma it was definitely worse at night

Prop yourself up a bit at night so you're sleeping more upright.

Can you get strep tests done at pharmacies in Calgary? Sounds like my mom has strep throat and hoping to get her tested and on antibiotics before Christmas if necessary.

Posting here because the covid forum is not very lively and it has implications for us...

https://twitter.com/user/status/1604748747640119296

China has abandoned covid zero, for better or worse. Lots of topics cover in this thread, like the issue of not very effective vaccines and high RT of Omicron.

Easy enough to say LOL China, but this could effect us

https://twitter.com/user/status/1604756126825943041

Stock markets typically haven't reacted well to this kind of news, either. Sell?

https://twitter.com/user/status/1604775434943467520

Yikes.
