They didn’t give him a billion dollars, and if they had $100M to give him in the first place, it’s because they sit atop a Scrooge McDuckian pile of money that they presumably want to protect from anyone who might sue them in the coming years for spreading misinformation that killed a loved one or caused them permanent damage.

You don't think a company worth that much wrote clauses into his contract that allowed them to opt-out if he tarnishes their brand?

I mean no court in the world is going to award money for something like that, but it's going to be a pretty bad look if there's some kind of superspreader event that gets linked back to something stupid Rogan said.

Fair enough, maybe they won’t get sued but it’s not going to take long for someone who’s yadda yaddaing the deaths of millions from his ivory bunker in Texas to become toxic for them.

Or maybe it won’t. Probably not. People don’t abandon these losers anymore, they go down with the ship because of some misguided loyalty- as though any of the people who share their warped view of the world would ever lift so much as a finger to help them at the worst moment of their life.

I don’t get it. None of these people deserve anyone’s undying allegiance.

They paid him a $100M for his property. That isn't the value to the company. The company is going to look at what the catalogue will earn them over time and then the positive or negative change the ownership of the content has to their market valuation. Estimates are that this is billion dollar money earner for the content. The valuation of the company has grown since the addition of this content by over thirteen billion dollars!

Don't know. Media is a funny business. You would think they would clauses in certain contracts that allow them to control the talent, but many times they don't include those clauses because they don't want to reign in the talent or the talent won't sell with the clause in there.

Can you clarify this point? Are you saying a court would sanction him for spreading misinformation, or that a court would not sanction him, even if there is harm to the public good? Because, sadly, this has already been decided in the courts and it doesn't go well for the general public well being.

The latter. The courts have been pretty clear on this in the past.

Not a great look, Bernie. He's not wrong but I have no idea why he'd go to bat for Cheney.

That doesn't read to me like he was going to bat for her so much as ripping the GOP as a party.

Wrong choice of word on my part, but kind of wish he'd just stay out of it.

I think he's rightly worried about the GOP transitioning from the party of Trump to the straight up MAGA Cult. That doesn't mean Cheney isn't awful, she is, but she's awful within the realms of reality. Consider that Cheney is still one of the most conservative members of the GOP and it still might get her ousted because she refuses to bend the knee. A GOP that doesn't believe in anything but subservience to their Jim Jones is more dangerous than just the normal GOP.

MAGA GOPs can win primaries, but will have a hard time in general elections?

Democrats’ temporary tax cuts mean those earning under $75,000 will largely pay $0 federal income taxes this year

Misleading headline as they are counting the government payments in this calculation...

Quote:
The cuts, which have largely already come in the form of stimulus checks, will also play out in the $3,000-plus Child Tax Credit and expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit approved in President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, Politico reported.

Congress’ Joint Committee on Taxation estimates that even those earning $75,000 to $100,000 will pay less than a 2% average tax rate this year.

Politico noted that unlike the tax cuts initiated by the Trump administration in 2017, this year’s cuts — which Democrats seek to make permanent — are skewed heavily in favor of low- and middle-income Americans.

The committee predicts that wealthier Americans, earning half a million dollars or more, will pay more than two-third’s of the nation’s federal income taxes in 2021.

Howard Gleckman, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan think tank, the Tax Policy Center, argued the move by Democrats “plays against type” because “Democrats are supposed to raise taxes.”

“It was a big honking tax cut for low- and moderate-income people,” Gleckman told Politico.

Biden is readying increases for the wealthy, including hikes on capital gains and the top marginal income tax rates, after already pushing to raise the corporate rate and to close loopholes letting American firms dodge taxes by shifting assets overseas.

Biden is doing some good stuff.
