Now I wonder who takes over at the AHL level.

Glad that Sutters Implementing his staff.

I think we should be kind of surprised MacLaine got a call up to the big bench.

I like to see change. Starting on the bench is a good start.

It just seems like a weird role to me. I didn't research this, but would appreciate some background on the subject of associate coaches. When did this become "a thing"? Assistant coaches are responsible for offense and defense, respectively. What is the role of an associate coach, really? Are there successful examples of associate coaching in NHL?

GG coaches the best PP in the league...sometimes its about the players on the ice more than anything else.

He didn't have much to work with in Montreal

This is one step forward in working towards getting more out of your players. I'm hopeful this will help point them in the right directions.

Muller I think could be a good asset.

Team record with Muller as Assistant or Associate coach:

Blues (Assistant):
2014/15- 51W-24L-7OTL
2015/16- 49W-24L-9OTL

Canadiens (Associate):
2016/17- 47W-26L-9OTL
2017/18- 29W-40L-13OTL
2018/19- 44W-30L-8OTL
2019/20- 31W-31L-9OTL
2020/21- 9W-6L-3OTL

Overall:
260W-181L-58OTL

EDIT: OOPS, left out a previous stint with the Canadiens from 2006-2011 (as Assistant):
06/07- 42W-34L-6OTL
07/08- 47W-25L-10OTL
08/09- 41W-30L-11OTL
09/10- 39W-33L-10OTL
10/11- 44W-30L-8OTL

ACTUAL OVERALL:
473W-333L-103OTL

Stockton Heat Assistant Domenic Pittis is also leaving and taking a position as Director of Hockey for a local Stockton Prep School.

When I was a kid, for whatever reason, I always got Kirk Muller and John MacLean mixed up (both Devils I guess? Maybe they had similar looking hockey cards in the 88/89 O-Pee-Chee set?)
Anyway, I guess as an adult I can get Kirk Muller and Cail MacLean mixed up.

So, given the first update of the offseason is asst coach fire/hires, think it safe to assume Brad treliving will be the captain of the ship going into next season.....

Whenever I listen to interviews of his, I always think he sounds like a smart human being who always shows other human beings proper respect. Just a good person.

No issue with these moves. Mueller is a name and a former head coach so at first glance there is not a lot to hate here

Yes, he wasn’t good at drafting.

He built a team that won a division, went to a Final, and should’ve won another division.

It got away from him at the end.

Drafting is one of the most important things a GM does, especially in today’s cap world. Not going insane with bad trades after a few years is also high up on the list. He did make some good moves though.
