Draft positions should fall unexpectedly with teams only playing in division games. (Assuming the schedule doesn't shift mid season)

I'm amazed that Aatu Raty was left off the Finland WJC team after being on it last year and looking solid.

This one's going to be quite different for the fact that scouts won't be able to birddog. Analytics and video being the only methods at their disposal.

Shameless plug, but our ranking came out a couple weeks back.

Lots of similar names in different orders.

Really tough to peg down at this point with half the class having yet to play.

I anticipate a pretty crazy draft. The fact that someone like Cole Sillinger, William Eklund, or Daniil Chayka could be available late in the first is pretty stunning. I think these are top 10 picks regularly.

Yeah this is going to be one of the most unpredictable drafts ever likely.

Going to be judging a player on what was a shortened Draft -1 year, and potentially a very short Draft season. Some of these players might not even play this year.

Draft board is going to mean nothing this season.

Probably a year where having a few extra shoots to take is a good idea

Probably should've mentioned this before Day 5 of the tournament, but we put together a pile of NHL Draft related content for the World Juniors. If you want to keep an eye on a few potential future Flames, here's the list:

I have a Gut feeling about Michal Gut of Czech.

As well as Swiss Simon Knak, who has a Knak for the Knet.

Is Samuel Helenius related to Sami Helenius? (EDIT: Yep)

Some guys who have caught eyes at the WJC, through the round robin portion:

https://nhlentrydraft.com/news/2021-...iminary-round/

Few will be around after the quarters, so keep an eye out for them.

Yeah, Sami is his father. Samuel is a huge center, who isn't afraid to use his body and be physical. And he is able to score, so quite different than his papa-Sami.

Beniers scouting report if you're checking out the USA-FIN game.

Quote:
MATTHEW BENIERS, C, TEAM USA
RUSSIA 5 – USA 3 – DECEMBER 26, 2020

Excellent head checks, constant scanning from Matthew Beniers. Is almost the first forward back and one of the first in the offensive zone. He’s an absolute force, getting the puck deep and winning the race to it. Finds the lanes so well, using change of direction to find open ice for himself and create space. Is so good at jumping on the loose puck thanks to stellar positioning. Excellent awareness in the offensive zone for some no-look passes. Drives the play, looking to funnel the puck to the slot. Knows how to use his body to separate from defenders, box them out as he turns the other way. Hard on the puck carrier, forcing turnovers. Great hands to intercept a centering pass, get through traffic and get out of danger. He goes 100% trying to get back and support his defenders. Did get outmuscled on a couple of occasions. Bad, wide, backhand shot. Should have turned back and re-set. Potentially needs to show some more patience with the puck at times, find space and re-evaluate. There are times where you can see him directing where the puck should go, leading his team.

Are they changing things up with the draft and how closely are we watching this?

I heard something about the league looking into postponing it until 2022, but I'm not sure if it's true....

Yeah, it's a great idea for everyone involved. Especially since majority of the draft class hasn't played hockey that actually counts since what? Last April?

Exactly. We all know how different the draft list looks the year before a given draft, compared to Draft day itself. The teams will essentially be using their D minus 1 lists if the draft takes place this year.

I suppose they'll have a bit of a read on some prospects-most of the Q is playing, most of the NCAA is playing, the WHL US Division and Alberta is back to playing in a few weeks, not sure about the OHL....

If they push the draft, I assume that means any draft picks that have been traded also get pushed a year. That could cause a stir, considering his much deeper the 2022 draft class would end up being.

Perhaps they do the 2021 draft on some weekend in June 2022, then do the 2022 draft the week after?
