I have no problem with Backlund but I think we need to take a sober look at who exactly is "earning" their salary for the club. We're a cap team year after year and aside from the 60 game stretch under Peters, we've been no better than a middle of the pack club. And this year much worse.
I'm not disagreeing with your post here. Just saying that it doesn't all add up. There is in fact an argument to defend every single player on the club and their contribution relative to salary. Sure Lucic is overpaid but lots of people will rush to tell you that every single club has a "mistake" on their roster and many are worse.
I guess we can blame it all on Gaudreau and yet he isn't actually making all that much.
In the case of Backlund, he might be a $5.5 million player but on this club, maybe he's not contributing enough to wins based on how the club is constructed.
