I didn't say you had no taste in music... so theres no need to put words in my mouth. Nor did I say that metal = incomprehensible growling/screaming.

Atreyu and Avenged Sevenfold are just not considered metal.

Metalcore
is basically the 'emo' equivalent of metal.
Sorry, wasn't really directing that at you per se, but like you said, metalcore (whatever the hell that is, I took it to mean the more melodically driven type music, as opposed to the beat-you-over-the-head riffing type) is 'frowned upon', in other words in a lot of people's eyes sucks compared to whatever they listen to.

This one I just found funny, because on the one hand it isn't metal, yet it has the word metal right in the category title

Like I said, I just really make no distinction, and will listen to all of it depending on my mood. It just happens that more often than not I end up listening to the A7X and Atreyu type.

ahaha, i can't believe you mentioned the all-mighty SLOUGH FEG! i've been a fan of theirs since the album Atavism, but their latest one Hardworlder was a knockout. one of the best albums of last year IMO

oh and if you like Slough Feg (particularly the vocals), then you really need to check out the Mike Scalzi's other band:

Hammers of Misfortune
http://www.myspace.com/hammersofmisfortune

listen to the song on there Trot Out The Dead, one of the best war protest anthems in recent years. the lyrics are fantastic

Yeah, it is rather odd. I think its named so as its a crossover between metal and hardcore.

Hardworlder was fantastic, as are all of their albums though I especially enjoyed Traveller.

Just listening to Hammers of Misfortune now. I'll have to track an album down I think.

Volbeat - Sad Man's Tongue

blues/metal/rockabilly, they're pretty hard to classify. but they just plain ROCK, man i never get tired of that song. Denmark is churning out some quality music lately

hehe I like that! For some reason it reminded me of when Johnny Cash sang 'Man In Black' with One Bad Pig, a christian punk band

Allright I checked out this album, and eventhough I am not exactly a fan of rough male vocals, I have to say I like this album. The music is awesome, female vocals are great and all the growling is tolerable. Good find.

Through Fire and Flames by DragonForce is a pretty good song, coming from someone who isn't that big of a metal fan.

Or at least that screaming type I suppose. I listen to a couple Alexisonfire and Deftones songs.

Really dig that Volbeat stuff Hemi! Methinks I'm going to have to spend some serious time in this thread soon.
