I swapped all 3 cars yesterday, and I also usually do it the week after Thanksgiving.
So only 2 weeks early, but I looked on a few weather apps and didn't see anything above 10 degrees for the next couple weeks so...

SW, SW, or West side?
If West side, Fountain Tire, Kal-Tire and Mr Lube (walmart) are all a few steps away from the Westbrook Ctrain station.

Suggestions for a place to get a quote on rims + tires?
I sent an email to my contact at UrbanX and it got bounced back to me. I sent an email to the general inbox and haven't heard back in three weeks.
The car is a 2013 Lexus CT200h.

I was at the south location yesterday to have some tires swapped for my sons jeep.
Give them a call.

84 $ yesterday at Urban X south location.
This was for a 2005 Jeep TJ.

I've often heard their email is questionable. Service in person or on the phone is generally prompt and fantastic.

I would just use PMCtire.ca (out of quebec) for a quote; as they're competitive and have lots of rim options.
You can then compare the rubber price to Costco.ca online

I have brand new Blizzak WS80s on my FWD GTI, but just ordered these auto tightening chains for days like today. Getting stuck just ain't my jam

You really don't need the chains. WS80s will get through this stuff pretty easy. I had them on my old car and already miss them (my Xice 3s that came with my new one aren't as good). Plus, are chains even legal in the city?

Honestly? Buy some rims from Lexus of Royal Oak, if they still have the ones they had for $250 a corner last time I was in there. That's ridiculously cheap for OEM rims and they'll actually look good on your car. Then use kijiji to find tires and bring them in (you can probably get them to mount for free if you buy rims from them).

Studs and chains are both fine for the city. The only ticket they could write is for deliberately damaging the road, doubt it would stick though

Studs for sure, but yes, because of the damage to pavement I would have thought there was a by-law against it or something.

The province and municipalities do not have legislation specifically prohibiting the use of studded tire or tire chains, but have legislation making damage to the roadway an offence. A peace officer within a municipality could have a concern with deliberate damage to the roadway due to snow chains on a tire. A peace officer could charge under Albertas Public Highways Development Act section 43, which prohibits damage to roadways. Several jurisdictions do have restrictions on using studded tires. Motorists using studded tires who are travelling to other jurisdictions should check before their trip.

If you're running them when its dry pavement, sure, they could write a ticket, but clearly it is permissible in snowy conditions.
I'm basically thinking I will keep them in the trunk and install on major snowfall days like today. With the hills that I have to climb, can't hurt to have as an option.

Don't think so. Light, powerful FWD car - not the best for traction. Imagine I'll need them 3 or 4 times a year but worth it for peace of mind (hopefully). Even with the winter tires the hills today were questionable. I'm used to AWD so having an ace up my sleeve is important. I'd rather not get trapped with kids in the car on an icy hill

Wow, I never would have thought chains were legal and feel like I would be nervous behind someone on Deerfoot at a regular pace who has chains.
I was torn between Blizzaks from costco or Nokian studded from Kal tire... took the plunge on the studded Nokians. I was actually amazed at how poorly my new grand cherokee handled on these roads with 4wd turned on. It seems like the snow was constantly pulling me.

Wow, you're not screwing around, Ducay. I thought you were joking at first. Guess you'll have the last laugh if you ever need them, but I've never encountered any condition Blizzaks and fwd couldn't handle with ease.

Ya - hopefully I never need them!
And certainly they're not for Deerfoot. They're only rated to 50kmph; days when you're basically just slogging through for survival.
