That's crazy, very extraordinary.

Almost certainly the first time there's been two fatalities in two separate incidents, I'd imagine.

From the cbc article. So it is 6?

Police initially said the girl's age was 10, then revised it to seven and later to six. They have not identified her publicly.

Yeah I have a 6 year old and there is no way I would let her walk by herself through a CTrain crosswalk.

How do we know the girl was alone? I know it's possible, but is there a report confirming as much? My 6 year old boy was notorious for darting ahead of us and making me terrified and furious, all at once. It's also possible for a sibling to lose control of a younger as well.

Lots of time for analysis for those that will get all the facts.

Parents worst nightmare, and I feel terrible for them.

Overreaction indeed. Losing their child isn’t enough eh?

I still have no idea which school the kid would be walking to. That crossing at 162nd is nowhere near an elementary school that I am aware of.

No, not if they let a 6 year old use a c train alone. If you're child dies due to your criminal negligence your guilt alone isn't "good enough".

If they paid someone to look after their child and that person failed, then that's different. Or if they we're with her and she ran ahead for some reason. But again, if this scenario is where the parents thought it would be ok for a 6 year old to go to the train station alone then punishment has to be dealt.

NM I read this again and agree

According to the reports, she was at 162 Ave, which is about a half a kilometre north of the C-Train station. That would explain why the train had enough speed to not be able to stop in time, and there may not have been any other people crossing at that time to tell her what to do and she panicked.

I wouldn't be surprised if her parents taught her to not go across the tracks if the lights were flashing and the bells were ringing, but didn't tell her what to do if she was halfway across when the bells started and that's why she panicked.

No articles say the 6 year old was using the train.

She either was using it, or, she was crossing in front of it. In fact using train crossings is a lot more dangerous than getting on a train with a dedicated platform.

Honestly, "maybe an overreaction" should be your user title.

Very tiresome.
