I am reluctant to think much about stories from TMZ level news sources. Is there anything out there a bit more trustworthy?

CBC is reporting it as well. Looks to have legs.

CBC is reporting that other people have reported so I don’t think any more or less credibility can be given however in these types of cases I think denouncing “TMZ” type sites is necessarily correct as some had a pretty good track record

This is all from somewhere called patheos.com.

https://www.patheos.com/blogs/nosacr...al-misconduct/

He is accused of following a womens solar system tattoo into her dress to see if Pluto was there.

Also accused of far worse.

Suspend him with pay until allegations are investigated.

Neil responds on his Facebook page with a long Note on the matter:

Text of the note: (spoiler for length)
Spoiler!

I'm not sure what to think, honestly. But I think I'll wait for the review.

Not sure what to think. I'm leaning towards socially awkward book worm may have come across as innappropriate but had no intentions of commiting and criminal acts to the first two allegations.

The rape one, seemed a tad too on the offensive for my liking. Possibly 1 out of the 3 are legit?

Always came across as a super nice approachable person who just wanted to share his passion for the cosmos and science. Sad day if any of this is true.

Sad day? No if any of this is true he’s a dirtbag and deserves anything he has coming. Whether people have elevated him to hero status or not means nothing.

The drug and rape one seems odd and out of place. The others I can believe. We'll see, I guess.

If it is true, then he deserves the appropriate legal and social consequences. That's for sure. Doesn't mean it would not be a sad day were people to find out someone they admire was confirmed to have a dark and awful side to them.

I don’t see why. It’s not like anything he’s admired for would be at all changed.

It is quite strange that we only reserve the “sad day” narrative for famous people we know nothing about, but when it’s a regular joe doing something terrible, nobody is trotting it out.

I agree. We cant be picking sides in the #metoo movement and be happy cause people we hate did and be sad when people we love did it.

The one where he follows the woman's tattoo to find Pluto is weird and creepy. I wouldn't do that to a woman. If it's true, that's not cool. I wouldn't necessarily call it sexual misconduct, but it's weird and creepy. The one where his assistant came over for wine and cheese is also potentially weird. Where was his wife? I couldn't imagine my wife being happy if I did that. But maybe it was totally innocent, who knows. The rape one however, we must believe the accuser of course, and if he's guilty well then he can go to hell. I'm a little surprised by it all but you just never know anymore who the dirtbags are.

When I first heard, I assumed it would be on her leg or chest area where looking for it would be "highly" inappropriate. But the solar system started on her arm, looking for Pluto would have been moving the shoulder area it would appear. He did it in public, in front of cameras. I mean, don't touch people who don't consent, but what appears as a 'harmless' joke 10 years ago is being brought up and made to seem a lot worse than it is in my opinion.

At one point there will be "I asked celebrity for a photo and he gave me a hug while posing for it! #metoo"

The other stuff. especially the actual rape allegation, are of course severely different allegations.

Edit: Nevernind, looks like from the article the one about the assistant he had over for cheese and wine seems more like an abuse of power than some innocent misunderstanding.

Why shouldn't people feel sad to find out that someone they admire is not as admirable as they thought? Feeling sad about that seems totally natural. Wouldn't you feel sad if you found out a person you admire had actually done some really despicable things that dramatically lowered them in your esteem?

I sure would feel sad if I found out that Iggy was a rapist, for example. It would totally tarnish a huge number of good memories as well as tarnish an example in my mind of a person with character traits to model and respect.

Seems weird to protest saying it is a sad day. May not be sad for everyone, but certainly sad for some people.

Even for you, this is a ridiculously stupid take. Is that really how you think the world works? Or is that supposed to be some kind of cynical burn?

Yeesh ^^^

I hope that's not true. I mean, for the obvious reason that any woman being assaulted or disrespected in that manner is bad of course. But I don't want to dislike that man.

Edit: Regarding Neil DeGrasse
