Well they aren’t cheaping out on coaching.

I am impressed with this.

The owners know us fans are not happy and are taking some steps to address organizational issues.

It’s about time they pony up on coaching.

I don’t mind Tocchet, but my concern is that we’re dangerously close to entering “too many cooks in the kitchen” status here.

Seriously, how many people does it actually take to do these things? Is it really that complicated these days? Never used to be.

Pat on the radio saying he believes the Flames talked with Tocchet before Muller was hired but it's not really a possibility now.

I agree and this seems more plausible

If I'm not mistaken, Edwards joined the team and Gelinas joined the bench when Peters left. So the bench coaches from that point on until now were: Sutter/Ward, Huska, Edwards, and Gelinas. 4 guys.

Right now the bench coaches are: Sutter, Muller, Huska. 3 guys, with MacLean in the press box. I can see them adding Tocchet, especially with what Canada 02 said about Sutter having multiple former HCs behind the bench in the past.

Are we just going to forget that this guy was kicked out of the NHL for two years after pleading guilty to a criminal conspiracy? You'd think we'd be looking to hire people without issues after the Bill Peters situation. I'd rather we hire someone who didn't plead guilty to gambling on sports.

Touché sir..

In saying that this isn’t baseball…

Gambling is forgivable

What Peters did was not.

Also I had no idea about this gambling conspiracy from his past.

This would be a very good move, now you have coaches who will have a better read on players coming in. Also young skilled players will be developed properly by experienced coaches. A group of experienced hockey minds will allow some brainstorming on how to best reach the finish line!

Sounds like this is an old rumour that may not be relevant any longer, but if it is still current and true, that's awesome!

I think that with adding Muller and promoting MacLean, while not firing Edwards and Gelinas - can we finally put to bed the whole "the owners are not willing to spend" crap.

If you look up and down this organization at the front office staff, they have spent quite a lot on their front office/coaching over the years. If Tocchet is added, that's even more amazing.

We sure Shane Doan isn’t available to add as a skill development consultant?

Was Tocchet involved in gambling on hockey? Seems he was running a gambling operation, maybe not placing bets. While I would say that is “forgivable”, I wouldn’t expect someone to be able to work in the NHL in any meaningful capacity if that was the case.

As I think about it, it’s kind of bush league the NHL would allow someone with that kind of strike against them in the league. There are tons of other hockey jobs out there he’d be qualified for.

So… anyone who has worked in the gambling business is disqualified from working in the sports business? Interesting take.

You said that if someone was running a gambling operation, you would expect them not to be able to work for the NHL ‘in any meaningful capacity’. Evidently it is your view that working in the one business makes you unfit to work in the other.

Running an illegal bookmaking operation should probably disqualify you from being a pro sports franchise head coach yes.

Kind of like how being guilty of embezzlement means you can never be a practicing CPA.

I explicitly said there were lots of hockey related jobs out there he could have.
