Yeah, but it’s not like Darryl came up in a cap environment or had any experience/history from which to draw.

You can hire someone to watch the cap, and you can learn to defer to scouts.

Our three most consistent players the last seven years, Gio, Backlund and Brodie, are all Sutter guys.

He had Iggy and Kipper and recognized it was more valuable to have NHL players with those guys instead of kids.

He may have chosen poorly who those players were, but he tried.

As time is a flat circle, place your bet on a Flames final appearance now, and double down on Darryl replacing Brad by Christmas.

The Flames sure do love having in house replacements available, don’t they.

Pretty serious group of coaches. I think whoever the players are next season, I would advise them to come prepared. Party is over.

Cail is a serious guy but you can tell how closely he connects with and understands his players. I think he has an excellent mind for the game.

I think with Cail coming up that we are going to see more of the kids. Maybe a big splash in free agency but no more veteran filler. I also don't see any big trades coming. Win now mode and if it doesn't work early than we might see a trade or two.

I hope that GM listens his coaches when he decides to bring some one in. Last year we signed bunch of players, but the coach didn't play most of them. This year please bring some useful players.

Surprised with Gelinas, actually. Didn't he leave Nashville to come to Calgary specifically because he wanted to switch over to coaching and gain experience? I am glad that he is still with the organization, just a bit surprised that he is back in player development (which is where he was in Nashville).

Fun fact. Mario won two Cups during his playing career. The Devils won three during the same period.

There could be more that we don't know about? Also this gives us a fresh set of eyes so they can get the team going in a different direction. Maybe Gelinas had input in a lot of the players brought in? Maybe his ideas are tied too closely with the previous coaches, or he just doesn't have the resume that Sutter is looking for? This is kind of like changing the coaching core!

I thought Gelly ran the PP. Something that needed improvement. It was also why Edward's was brought down from the press box.

That was 9 years ago, things can change.

He was praised by Poile for his work in player development, maybe he welcomed the move back there after coaching for so long. Didn’t seem like he was primed to move up the coaching ladder any further.

Wondering if Muller had some good relationships with some Habs pending UFAs that the Flames might be interested in - Armia, Perry?

I've always liked Kirk Muller so that sounds like a good hire to me. Don't really know much about Cail MacLean but he's from the Flames Stockton farm team so that's a good move too. Ryan Huska is still here is an assistant so that's a good sign.

I'm sure Darryl had something to say about these coaching changes, positive moves I think.

Muller is a great pickup. Did not see that coming.

So long as he stops referring to my hometown as “Cal-GARY”, I agree.

Depending on how much say is between Treliving and the coaches, will be interesting to see if any from Stockton get more game time next year or start (with a your position to lose), depending on preseason

This is a great move. Thanks to the departing coaches for their work, but new voices are needed. Glad Sutter gets to bring his own boys on board.

Be interesting to see what the player moves will be. I have a feeling there will be a few character vets brought in as I see that being one of the teams bigger issues.

Should be an interesting summer.
