Spurgeon is a hell of a player IMO. I have followed him a lot since playing a short stint for the Aeros back when they were a thing and I saw him live on several occasions.
Still this is a little more than I think he warrants. I actually think the term is reasonable as he is a heart and soul guy. But team should have gotten a little better AAV for going that long.
Love the press release comment about getting g a career high in PIM’s of 20. That really isn’t that noteworthy.

37 year old Zuc
And 34 year old spurg

I think this tweet says it all.

So he predicts no change in the cap over 5 years? Pretty damn unlikely.
I’m sure a ton of teams pay 33% of their cap from 5 years ago to their top 4 guys. Obviously the issue with the Wild players will be their age so I guess they figure their contention window is now. Funny that Fenton was about to trade Zucker for a draft pick.

The players ask and receive on NHL contracts has gotten out of control yet again.

Just for context, he'd be the highest paid player on the Flames by just under a million. All for a 2/3 defenseman on a mid-range team.

Did Guerin accidentally leave his phone in Dubas' car?

I don't know if there is a more mediocre team in sport history. Never horrible, never great, just the Wild.

Was this contract signed while Fenton was still GM?

This is a good deal... For the first half of the deal. Giving a player that much term at the age of 31 when it starts sounds like a bad idea. Not every defenseman is a Burns/Gio/Lindstrom

For a moment, I thought they have hired Chiarelli.

Ha, remember when there was outrage that Gio's rumored ask was 9m?
He'd be value at 9 right now.
I have faith in Treliving.

I don't watch a lot of Wild games, but that seems way out of whack for Spurgeon. Is he that good? I figure he's about as good as Brodie. Can you imagine if Flames paid Brodie that? Tre is a wizard when comes to RFAs. Now if he can just learn from his UFA mistakes, we'd be golden.

I figured he was a second pairing guy who could put up decent numbers on the PP. I was surprised to see how many minutes he's logging. Still, seems like a lot of money.
