Mangiapane contract negotiations
Eric Francis @EricFrancis
Mangiapane has made a concession of $200K after speaking to various people he is close to within the organization. His ask is now $850K on one-way deal and slightly more on two-way. He is keen to get to camp to show his value. Flames QO is $715K and player has no rights.

The other report earlier was that the Flames were offering $800k.
Make it happen.

time to get this done. I get playing hardball and it's necessary given the tight budget, but I think it's time to finally get him to camp.

Wasn't there something about the Flames offering 800k when he was asking for 1 mil? Seems like this should be a done deal if the difference is now 50k.

800 for a one way one year deal seems good for both sides to me

Mangiapane wants $850K
Flames want $800K
1 year, $825K seems like the natural landing spot. Add some wizard magic, and call it 1 year, $810K.

He already came down 200K and is asking the Flames to come up 50K in goodwill. I couldn't see that not happening.

I would have no issue if Tre signed Mangiapane to $850K, whether it be for 1 or 2 years.
If rumours are true of the Flames wanting $800K and AM wanting $1M, then him coming down to $850K is a huge concession and worth it for Tre to sign at that price.
I would still expect Tre to see if he can get $825K or less though, but I think we're close to seeing a deal done.

He should be asking for NHL league minimum on a 2-way contract, but a higher AHL salary. Anything higher than league minimum on a 2-way makes it more tempting to demote him for a replacement player on league minimum.
The cap is that tight this year.

He isn’t clearing waivers so a two way contract is pointless to me. He’s earning the NHL salary he signs for

1-Way vs 2-Way makes no difference IMO.
I don't think he clears waivers if they put him on waivers, so Flames shouldn't be concerned about that.

His ask was reported as $1mil. Came down more than half way, sign the thing.

So why would BT move from the existing offer from the flames? The player has no leverage, correct?

The current contract system is so bizarre. You have the Flames nickle and diming an effective young player primed to break out even further and you have them paying what, $4 million this year for a #7-8 defender?
