Checked out the new Boardwalk Burgers on Heritage Dr. They have awesome shakes for $5, a nice interior, promise fresh ingredients, and have prices similar to 5 Guys, but I don't think they are nearly as good. They seem like a slightly better Fatburger, but more expensive. I'll be back for a peanut butter milkshake for sure though.
Finally went to Rocky's Burger Bus, man was I disappointed. The patty seemed of good quality meat, but it was quite bland and was a lump in the middle of the bun. It came nowhere near the edge. The bun was good, but otherwise I could only taste the standard toppings, onion, relish and mustard. The fries were better. I would put this very low on the burgers in the city. You are better off going near by to Naina's or even Boogies or Five Guys.
Just as this summer was beginning and while perusing Calgarypuck.com, i notice some of you guys talking about and providing links for something called BurgerQuest. I had no idea what the hell it meant but after visiting the site, i fell in love with the quest and do so much enjoy reading the reviews from our three burger eating heroes, Wunder Bun, Flavour Sabre and White Gravy.
I am a little surprised though that their top rated burger establishment doesn't get more recognition among this burger discovery thread? Naina’s Kitchen was the first place i tried out after becoming familiar with the Quest and it is by far the BEST BURGER i have ever had anywhere! I recently posted on the BurgerQuest forum about Naina's and will be visiting there again with friends and family tomorrow before noon so here is a sample of my post
Spoiler!
After driving by and missing Nina's three times while fending off my wife who wanted to leave "this bad area" we found it. Pulling up, my wife then refused to take the kids out of the car, saying "I was crazy" that "no way could a good burger be found in this place." Pretending not to hear my wife as i usually do when ignoring her, i parked, got out and went into the restaurant. The place smelled amazing and three younger patrons were already enjoying their burgers and it looked like some superb home cooking. I went back out to the car and told my wife this and since we had already looked over the menu online, I could see i almost had her convinced and finally she agreed to try it but still didn't want to stay. After some consideration, my wife was only going to get a regular burger while my kids and i wanted a stuffed one.......that is right, Naina's Kitchen STUFF'S their beautiful home made burgers. Upon meeting Naina and telling her i was only there after i had read the BurgerQuest review, she expressed her love for you three and proceed to tell me what was good. I saw that she had pulled pork on her menu and since my wife loves and makes a terrific pulled pork at home, i asked her if it was possible to take a sample to my wife (still sitting in the car). Naina was a little surprised at this request but that expression was immediately replaced by a confident look that said "yea, go ahead and try to tell me that's not delicious" and that's exactly what my wife said after she finished the bowl without letting me have even a small taste!
I had a stuffed burger with ham, mushrooms, onions, bacon and Swiss, my two boys, ages 6 and 4 split a stuffed cheddar, Mozz. and bacon burger while my wife caved and had a stuffed pulled pork, onions and Mozz. burger. I also wanted to try Niana's Five cheese Mac so instead of fries, i had her soup of the day which was sweet sausage and corn and it was freaking delicious! i could have seriously eaten a barrel full of the stuff and have asked her to call me when she makes it again.
Taking the food home which was about a 20 minute trip but as soon as we put our vehicle into the carhold, the four of us raced into the house to sit at the kitchen table when the only audible sounds from us were "oooh's" and "aaah's" in the first delicious moments our meal. My boys loved their burger and ate all of their home cut fries with my oldest after just finishing his burger already asking when do we plan to go back? Just like the sample, my wife refused to share a bite of her burger with me but to be honest, i really didn't want to share mine either. The burgers are so juicy and are cooked to perfection. Although I haven't gotten the ham stuffed again since for me it took away a little from the burger meat flavour, i have tired everything else including spinach which is really good and plan on asking Naina to place an fried egg on top of my next creation. The only other modification I've made is asking to hold the mayo as it makes me feel a little less guilty when i order two burgers.
Like i said before, my family and i have been back two more times with each time taking friends with us who have been amazed just as we were our first time. Every time we have been, we were served amazing food. The burgers are obviously a little bit better when you eat them at the restaurant which we've done our last two trips but that would be the case for any place you get takeout from. Naina's kitchen is an amazing restaurants and is an absolute gem of a find and i applaud you guys for going and making the rest of us aware.
The rest of my post is provide in the link below plus another suggested designation you might not have considered for another very good burger (not better than Naina's) I also encourage you if you haven't, to become a member of the BurgerQuest site and help these guys continue their journey in discovering Calgary's best burger......well, second best since i honestly can not fathom any burger being better then from Naina's Kitchen, they are that good
As I have posted many times before, I love the stuffed burgers at Naina's Kitchen so I was thrilled to get a email telling me she was closed yesterday and again today for the taping of 'You Gotta Eat Here' (the Canadian version of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives)
She is totally deserving of the recognition for the absolutely delicious home-cooking served in her restaurant, i cant wait to watch the episode!

Ha, should have read this before I left, I went to today for lunch and they were closed for filming. Went to Mugshotz instead and had a burger, not bad, but not Nainas...

Agreed, though I'd put them behind Fatburger too. They are basically a Five Guys clone that is slightly more expensive and not nearly as good. However, anyone who does go - The small fries is an individual size and medium is family size.
Best burger I have ever had in Calgary was at Trib downtown. The duck burger they have during duck fest every year is amazing. Duck patty (with onion), Duck Cheese (duck fat mixed with Griere and solidified), Duck Bacon and a fried duck egg on top. Amazing.
Hop's Downtown Grill in Kalispell serves a very nice burger.
Norm's News in Kalispell. It's an old fashion soda fountain place. Good homemade burgers. The milkshakes and floats are amazing. Whenever I have the kids, it's a must stop place.
Tavern 1883 in canmore has really good burgers in general, but they serve a lamb burger that's stuffed with goat cheese and has mint aioli on a solid bun.
Probably the best "non-traditional" burger I've had the pleasure of eating.

I tried to go here and Hop's yesterday. Both not open. Was very disappointed. Decided to go to our old standby in Lakeside with Tamarack Brewing Co for a good meal.
