Ugh. Terrible.
Chris Simon was one bad SOB. Completely changed the identity of the Flames during that run. What a pickup.
RIP.

Sounds like his life got really rough. Divorced, bankruptcy, and filed for disability all in 2017. Very sad story.

At 52, Donald Brashear is still slugging it out in the Quebec Senior League. I'm afraid it won't end well.

Ugh. RIP one of my favorite Flames ever. Met him at a gas station after a 2006 playoff game. Super nice dude.

See...thats terrifying. Because Brashear is/was a badass and he can take care of himself...but because he's Donald Brashear every ass hat in the league wants a piece of him.
I hope he's taking care of himself.

Simon was a huge part of our 2004 cup run, he was a legit power forward that was a huge compliment to the wing on Iginla's other side. He and Gelinas would switch off often depending on what Sutter wanted.
RIP

It's funny you mention this as this is what I was thinking as well. Darryl Sutter called into the Fan960 a few years back to say goodbye to Rhett when he was leaving radio and they started to reminisce about 2004 and Sutter mentioned how it was tough to trade Noodles because of who he was and how much he meant to the team but the Rangers needed a goalie at that time due to injuries and Sutter had been on Glen Sathers tail about Simon for most of the season. The Rangers were out of the playoffs so Sather said sure send me a goalie & players & i'll give you Simon.
Sutter also shared a story around how in Game 1 of the 2004 first round vs Vancouver, Simon was manning the redline during warmup going back & forth staring at the Canucks and he let the likes of Jovo, Matt Cooke etc. know "if any of you touch Iginla....you're dead" Sutter said he knew at that time that they would be alright in that series.

I don’t think it matters how good of a fighter you are and whether you are taking care of yourself. You are still going to get blows to the head. Probert was one of the best ever and still had cte.
I’m from the rock em sock em generation, but it’s time to ban fighting. Thrown out of the game first time, suspensions on subsequent fights. In every league.

Very sad news, I think we are long past the point where the "entertainment" value of fighting to the fans is worth more than the effects the repeated blows have on these young men's lives after hockey. RIP Chris.

Sad news to hear, condolences to his family and friends.
One of my favourite players during the '04 run. I always remember during that run it felt like the deeper we got the more effective he was. I also recall him being a familiar face when I was kid first getting into hockey during the days when he was with the Avs in 96 and that Capitals run to the finals in 98 too. RIP Chris.

I wouldn't put him as a pure heavyweight like Domi or Kocur, as he,actually, had some skills.
