Flames 2020 WC Play-In Round: Calgary Flames (8) vs. Winnipeg Jets (9) Flames 2-1

It's official: the Calgary Flames will be playing the Winnipeg Jets in the blurst round of the playoffs whenever the season resumes and the playoffs begin. It's the first all-Canadian playoff matchup since Calgary/Vancouver in 2015 and it's the first time these two franchises have met in the playoffs.

Let's discuss the merits of this matchup. Who will take it? What will it look like? Who has the edge on paper?

Flames-Jets in a best of five series ... I have one good and one bad memory of such a thing.

Two months for coaches to plan for a specific team. Could be interesting.

This series will depend on goaltending. Hellebuyck kept the Jets in it this year. If we see that Hellebuyck we’re in for some trouble.

On the other hand, if we win this series, the Flames would do pretty good with that morale boost.

Both teams have to do a lot of homework on each other because the Heritage Classic was the only game played against each other.

Flames in .....5.

Man that play in round is going to be bad bad bad hockey. Replacing the quality of hockey though will be insanity and drama. So many mood swings predicted.

Best news though, all teams will be healthy AF.

Flames D depth is bonkers.

Gio- Brodie
Hanifin-Hammer
Gustafsson-Andersson
Forbort-Kylington
Yelesin-Valimaki (he ain't gonna sniff a game unless its the absolute last option available)

I like our chances. Hellebuyck was on a serious roll this year but I think the time off will not do him any favours. The Jets D does not inspire fear and I like our depth better. Also I read an article with an interview with Laine where he predicted he would be terrible upon resumption. He has a rep for not training during time off. It will be a tough series but I like our chances! GFG!!!

Man, you could put Hanifin with Andersson who play better together than Hammer Hanifin.

Then you could let Gus do more 9ffensive stuff paired with Hammer.

I'd rather that look.

This will be a hyper-competitive 5 game series. Winnipeg's defensive depth is not strong.

Kinda like when the Bolts got swept in the first round last year after a historic season?

^^^ The last time the Flames and Jets met in a best-of-five series, the Flames went to the Final. A repeat of that would be nice (with a better result in the Final).

“Franchise” and not the city.

This series could be called the battle of Atlanta
