Pretty good AAV for Karlsson assuming he can be a consistent 50+ point player.

seems like a great signing within the range you would hope for if you are a fan of the team.
Guy is a really good player and still young enough that the term will be over by the time his skills go off of a cliff.
hope for a few more contracts like this to counterbalance the money thrown around earlier...

Meanwhile some Flames fans complain and want to trade 99 point Gaudreau who makes slightly more

Not at all the same. 8 year deal versus 3 years and a strong chance to bolt.

Given the contracts handed out of late this one appears totally reasonable with the term being the big concern but of late it seems GM's aren't planning like they will be around to see the back end of these deals.

He's 26 years old I wouldn't be too worried about the term on this one.

Thats a very good contract for Vegas. I would take him over Hayes anyday and he is cheaper to boot. I bet other Gm's around the league are loving this deal.

It seems like deals are getting more sensible now that more time has passed. There are benefits to being patient. I personally think Karlsson is better than Hayes and about equal to Skinner, but plays a more premium position.

I dont think anyone feels that Gaudreau is overpaid. But at this point his trade value will never be higher than what it is now.
If the Flames signed Gaudreau to a 8 year deal for 9.5 a year today I hazzard to guess that most would be very pleased. Its the notion that he's gone in 3 years for nothing terrifies some as the current team did fail badly in the playoffs so fans think they will be left with 3 more years of failure and a guy who bolts leaving the team as a barren wasteland organization. Which is not completely unfounded as the Flames have managed asssets poorly for 25 years now.
This is a pretty good contract for Vegas. Karlsson at worst is a solid second line center and I think his style of game should lend itself to longevity alright.

Yeah that's a solid signing if Karlsson stays consistent and healthy. Well done Vegas, but this only makes me hate you more.

Even if Vegas buries Clarkson on LTIR, they have major cap problems. Probably have to shed 2 of Miller, Smith and Reaves to get under. Also, unless they move at least 1 of those guys or find a place for Clarkson, they are going to be stuck doing business, as they will be too far over the cap even for the offseason.

This deal pleases me as it helps to set a lower bar for this summer’s RFAs.

I can assure you after he wins the Art Ross and Hart next year his value will be higher.

Even with the Vegas low tax-rate, this would be a steal. I'm expecting full NMC (in a year when possible and a handshake agreement not to be moved until then) but I would have put him at 8x8 if he wanted it. Very solid deal for Vegas, unfortunately for them they are still burden with other high contracts.

Even then his value is likely lower. Three years of Gaudreau vs two.
