If you don't click on the article, it's a theory proposed by astronomers from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
I know it's going to be easy to dismiss the "alien" talk, but whatever it was, we probably will never know - and because of that, we can't dismiss that possibility, even if it's highly unlikely.
If we go back to the Big Bang, when could we expect a form of life intelligent enough to launch some kind of probe into space, and would it possibly reach here in that time?
However, I have to think the change of that thing (if theorized to be a probe) arriving here while there is life on Earth to recognize it must be incredibly small.
I see more and more of these "Alien" conspiracies and theories. While I know they've been around forever, I see more and more "respectable" outlets pushing them. While some of it is definitely click bait, to me it has a weird feeling of a coordinated attempt to normalize the thought of extraterrestrial life among the masses, so that once its reached an acceptable level, the truth will be released.

Aliens are the new God. Anytime anything unexplained happens in the cosmos some overworked academic suggests it's an alien ship, or a Dyson Sphere, or a radio signal from an alien civilization. It is none of these, it's just unexplained at this point. Just like humanity used to attribute every unknown phenomenon to an all powerful God(or group of them) for some reason scientists seem to fall into the same trap.
Pfft aliens, that would be as silly as billions of people believing in some sort of omnipotent ethereal being watching over all of us and judging our every move.
