Game Takes: Canucks 5 Flames 2

- Tough bounces
- Not a great Rittich start
- unimpressive push back

Nice write up. Agree the Bennett scratch was questionable, liked him against McD

In addition to the note about bad bounces, I’d add missed nets in grade A chances in the first two periods as a self imposed headwind.

Then the goaltending was rough. Rittich really has to stop that seeing eye shot from the point, and after Talbot was solid, he leaned away to give up a full third of the net on goal 4, which cane when the Flames really needed the next goal.

I can only assume that, startled by Kipper’s sudden appearance, all efforts went to coaxing him out of retirement.

Would have definitely liked a little more pushback from the Flames. Canucks get outshot and largely outplayed the previous night, the late game on Saturday and have less than 24 hours between starts. When the Flames had a slightly worse, but comparable situation between Dallas and Minnesota, you’d have thought it was an impossible disadvantage.

This was an ideal chance to gain points on a division rival. Instead Canucks pick up 4 points in 24 hours.

So who starts on Tuesday?

Although Talbot was decent on relief, I think they have to go back to Rittich to show it was a bad start and not something more.

I know the Canucks were one of the teams to inquire about Bennett when he was being talked about earlier in the year. I wonder after the scratch against them last night if they swing back around and see if the asking price has come down a bit.

^ You sure we couldn't interest them in a lightly used Jankowski?

Only once he's a UFA. He looks like he needs a 4 year 3 million per deal.

What would the Flames want back? Virtanen?

Talbot should start tomorrow and if he wins he should start the game after that. The team eventually needs to learn how to play well in front of him and having both goalies play well only benefits the team. Like I said last night, I think maybe Rittich knowing he's the guy has made him a bit too comfortable and it's resulted in the amount of bad goals he's let in this season.

And I said this last season when Smith starting getting more starts, if Rittich is so mentally fragile that sitting out multiple games is going to rattle him he's not the goalie we hope he is.

That was what was being posited here at the time. I passed then, I pass now. Virtanen is finally turning into the player that we wanted when he was drafted. Unfortunately Bennett is being sold at the lowest he will probably get, so you're getting a Kole Lind or a 2nd/3rd pick
