Default Flames 5 Oilers 1

Game Takes: Flames 5 Oilers 1

- Mangiapane first 3 point game
- top line goes to work (6 points)
- top pairing shows Edmonton what that looks like
- solid road win

Good write up.

I liked the off topic addition. Alan Quine 3G 3A? Awesome

We can protect 7 forwards and if Lucic waives as expected there is plenty of space to protect Mangiapane. We have 4 locks to be protected but I think the rest are up for grabs.

Gaudreau
Monahan
Lindholm
Tkachuk

Dube
Mangiapane
Bennett
Backlund
FA/Trade Aquisition

The Flames stood up in the hit department only getting outhit 28-23.

Very good sign... only Ryan, Gaudreau Backlund and Brodie as expected skilled players not registering a hit . Hanifin with no hits as well.

Kylington with 3 hits. Doing what a 6/7 d-man needs to do to stay in the line-up.

If there is anything i know about Oliver Kylington is that he is a physical menace.

when Backlund went -21 and Frolik went -19 in 2017 I was told repeatedly that +/- was a totally meaningless stat.

Are +/- significant this season for Monahan (-13) and Hanifin (-19) and Gaudreau (-10)?

Monahan and Gaudreau have stabilized with the new coach and new lines but Lindholm (-5) and Tkachuk (-4) for December miss their old lines/ matchups.

If +/- is actually a meaningful stat it does not look good for Hanifin being the Gio or Brodie replacement in the top-2 as his only plus year was last season. Career -54 (-14, -19, -20,+18 and this years -19)

Sure enjoy getting my game stories derailed consistently now.

I don't even mind the topics, but they have nothing to do with the game story itself. Nothing.

Bingo, your stories will continue to be derailed when you have a particular poster whose

assumptions, concepts and beliefs are completely “off the rails”.

Even when his arbitrary and whimsical “stats” are proven 100 % wrong....there he is, like a

“dog on an imaginary bone “.

Best to ignore him or better yet...

The discussion might get derailed, but that doesn't detract from the quality of the article. Lots of us enjoy the read.

Glad to see the recognition on Brodie's play. He has been really good for a while now and I agree that last night might have been his best game of the year.

Agreed. And as long as no one responds, no derailing.

Read last night that some fans thought Kylington and Andersson had a rough game. Same with Bennett. I thought the entire team played a rock solid game. No goats, no whipping boys. Even my goat Gaudreau for all his dancing into turnovers had solid contributions last night. Heavy criticism of Monahan too which was unwarranted.

IMO, the quality of the opponent was the biggest thing for me last night. Shut down 2 players on their side and it's a cake walk. Seriously that's a bad, bad team over there.

For a team like the Flames who are notoriously dopey coming out extended time off between games they played perfectly. Like goldilocks finding the perfect porridge. It was just right.

I liked Bennett's game last night. They had him play against McDavid in McD's rookie year as well, and Bennett did a good job of it. He no doubt relishes the opportunity.

What a way to open up a roster to roll ... get your fourth line to handle the top line of the opposition, and have a solid defensive player on each of the other three lines (Lindholm, Backlund, Ryan)

The lines looked odd at the beginning but the Flames are almost matchup proof right now.
