Terrible news. Heard he was battling cancer. Sad to hear he couldn't pull through.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, as I'm not a guitaring expert. But he is my personal #1 favorite guitarist. Love his rifts and melodies that bring out the emotions in many of his songs. Many of his melodies are timeless and recognizable in many aspects of our daily lives.

RIP Eddie. Going to be blasting your classics all day today.

I don't think it would be an unpopular opinion. debatable maybe, but that's the beauty of personal opinion. I'm a Brian May guy myself, and not many would choose him.

I loved Van Halen, grew up listening to the band. He always seemed to be a lovable goofball.

Regret never seeing him live. probably could have, but I disliked the Sammy Hagar Van Halen, and the more pop sound that Van Halen became.

Huntingwhale, if you want something cool to listen too that combines both our favorite guitarists, listen to this old classic. the link below has the songs along with the story.

Van Halen was probably my first favourite band when I started listening to real music (not kid's music). His sound was definitely distinctive.

I find it interesting that he used play some of his solos facing away from the audience to keep his techniques a secret. He was a great musician, but was also a very intelligent guy being able to build himself as a brand.

Didn't know he was of partial Javanese extraction.
Apparenlty experienced some racism growing up in Holland and California.
