Overall I still don’t like this for the Flames unless the Oilers are eating like $2M
Think it’s more likely Neal bounces back than Lucic.

Lucic just wants to be able to keep doing his special secret handshake with Talbot.

It shouldn't take too long to change, "Oilers no move clause" to "Oilers no! Move clause."

Lucic is bad, but Neal was monumentally bad last year.
Can't say I have much faith Neal would have a better season with us. Seems like he came to Calgary because of Mike Smith, so makes sense he follows him to EDM.
2 bad players with 2 bad contracts. But Lucic's contract is worse in terms of his NMC and being buyout proof.

IF Lucic waives for the expansion draft and they retain over 30%, I don't HATE it.
But I still don't like it

The NMC is in place unless the player waives it. Lucic can permanently waive it if he wants. I don't think he has to wait at all.

Well, there we have it.
Legitimately one of the worst moves in franchise history. This could cost us Andersson or Mangiapane.

I for one didn't think there was any chance the Flames could do anything with Neal but buy him out.
I'm amazed there was a trade potential.

That’s not how it works. If the player still wants it they don’t waive in the first place. The specifics are all part of the negotiation to waive your NMC to begin with.

Not aware of any specific drama, but interesting that good buddies Smith and Neal are both gone and will be playing on the same team.
Both unhappy here? Unhappy together?
Maybe Tre decided it was worth a shot to replace one problem with an entirely different problem in Lucic.
But either way this is a hard one to stomach.
