Trade the necessary pieces. Players, picks, prospects I would put them all on the table for a chance at either Bob or a reduced Price.

I'd rather have 2 to 3 years of really good chances at the cup, and maybe win one and then suffer 5 years of ok hockey. Having an elite goalie can make or break the team. Brodeur was the same. Last time NJ got to the finals, they have no super stars except for him. We have the foundation now, we should go for it. I don't want to be the Philly of Canada.

If the Habs would eat $2M of the Price deal I would get behind the Flames trading for him. I just wouldn’t want to pay the price (no pun intended) that the Habs would likely want for their franchise player and 8 years for $2M dead cap space.

I don't think CBJ is going to retain salary on Bobrovsky...

Bennett, Stone and Gillies for Bobrovsky. Clears cap space. If CBJ can't do this and wants more, then substitute Gillies for 1st rounder. It may be a steep price, but we are getting one of the top goalies in the league and we would instantly be a contender. Goaltentinf would be good for at least next 5 years. Otherwise, what are we waiting for? Hope developement pans out in time to coincide with our short window of time? Might as well try and get the "sure thing" then hope for hope.

The recent block buster's seemed to cost less than expected due to the high salary. Most trades seemed to focus more quantity than quality. Weber and Suban was the last super star hockey trade.

That is not a steep price. Bob is one of the best goalies every year. PLayoffs he turns to trash, but regular season he is Top 3. A 3rd liner a bottom pairing D and a first round pick seems like not enough.

Yeah, I would much prefer taking a run at Bobrovsky as a UFA.

Just say no to Bob, his regular season stats are great but he turns back into a pumpkin in the playoffs.
2017-2018 65GP 2.42 .921
NHL Career 395GP 2.44 .920
2018 Playoffs 6GP 3.18 .900
Career Playoffs 24GP 3.49 .891

Why are we trading for Bobrovsky when we can sign him for free in the 2019 offseason?

You trade for him now so you can win this year. Theres also no guarantee he makes it to ufa. Get him now and try to work out an extension but you do it to win now. The Flames wont win with their current goaltending.

Okay... Let's say Bobrosvky gets signed.
Rinne
Varlamov
Smith
Howard
^ Sign another stopgap goalie then. Bobrovsky is not the answer.

People are putting way too much stock in goalie performances in the preseason.

Rittich has a better track record than Gillies in the NHL. His pre-Smith-injury performance was the best of any Flames backup in a decade.
I wasn't saying Gillies is better (although I do think he has more potential).
I was just responding to a hypothetical. If some some reason Rittich is sent down, the Flames should not sign Lehtonen.

Just say no to signing a 30 year old two time Vezina winning, all star goalie with a career .920 save percentage?
Haha, okay then....
If Bobrovsky goes UFA and actually wants to sign here, you sign him without question.

Bobrovsky is good, but he looks like he crumbles under pressure.
Compare his season stats to his playoff stats... It's pretty scary.

The Flames goaltending is much more scary. Has been for a long time and there is no definitive legit starter in the system ready to take over for 36 year old Mike Smith either.
Id take my chances with Bobrovsky happily.

To be clear, it was a conditional hypothetical.
Rittich would need to be claimed to necessitate signing Lehtonen.

1) What would be enticing for Columbus to give up their all star goalie?
2) You're willing to pay assets for a goaltender that could very well walk after this season? It just doesn't make sense to spend assets on a goaltender that we can essentially sign for free next season.
