Oh man do I want to see this but I don't anymore. McDavid commands a respect on the ice that Crosby doesn't. Watching tonights game everyone on the Ducks was always looking for McDavid. It helped that McDavid also played 25 minutes and the announcers made sure we knew about it for every second.

Crosby goes about his business quieter. I'm not about to say McDavid has accomplished anywhere near what Crosby has but at the moment you have to say McDavid is the bigger game changer.

Just be thankful McDavid doesn't have his Malkin and with team lottery balls drafting history they won't be getting one any time soon.

edit: I feel dirty for even thinking this. Maybe I'm overcompensating while trying to take a level headed approach?

As long as the flames can stop McDavid and beat Talbot in net, they can win a series with them. I'm just ticked they haven't done that yet this year. Still mad two of the four games against them We're the first two games of the season

The best is when you bring up that the Oilers are a 1 player team.

Here is an example of a convo I had with an Oiler fan:

Oiler Fan:
Oilers are so good! The best in the world. Their offense is crazy and their defense looks awesome. Look at all the talent.

Me:
The Oilers are a one player team. McDavid. If there is no McDavid you'd be playing for another lottery win.

Oiler Fan: What? Are you kidding me? Look at all their players: Draisital, Maroon, Lucic, RNH, Eberle, Larrson, and Kris Russell?

Me: You mean Kris Russell that 29 other teams didn't offer a contract? RNH and Eberle that have been horrible for how many years now? Connor McDavid is the only reason you're where you're at.

Oiler Fan? You're wrong, the Oilers are awesome. Draisital and Maroon? Keep it up I can shut you down all day?

Me: You mean the two guys who play with McDavid.

Oiler Fan: Yeah they make McDavid better.

Me: Patrick Maroon has 27 goals playing with McDavid this season. He had like 30 goals combined the last 4 seasons. McDavid is the only reason you're team is winning.

Oiler Fan: Oilers are so good! The best in the world. Their offense is crazy and their defense looks awesome. Look at all the talent.

It will be so awesome when refs put the whistle away in Playoffs and they don't get all those phantom power play opportunities.

I disagree... Crosby gets just as much attention from the opposition... before tonight, he had a higher PPG, while playing less TOI per game, and plays a better defensive game...

... I stand by my assessment, McDavid is much more so on Malkin's level... their stats are similar too, albeit Malkin plays less... McDavid is a bit faster, and Malkin is a bit bigger and tougher on the puck... but they seem very similar when watching them play.

And, to the credit of all those mentioned here, Malkin was also once considered the best player in the world.

Problem is I have no confidence in the ability of NHL officials to call a fair series with Oilers.

Was poor this evening but I dunno. It's still regular season. It seems like the PP/PKs go down by half for basically all teams when the playoffs start. And just decreases with each series.

The refs would get individually grilled if they pulled this junk over a series. They'll be under the magnifying glass as well.

I'm surprised? Weren't they throwing lottery parties up in Edmonton? They are proud of they fact that they disgraced the game for a decade to get a generational talent.

Even Malkin is pushing it. He's more prime Thornton level.

I mean the real tragedy is that McDavid is awesome. I will hate him for as long as he wears the jersey of that dumpster fire of a franchise, but seems like a decent enough guy.

Edmonton deserves none of what he brings to the table .

You don't think McDavid is on Malkins level?

I guess we have to hope the Oilers management make some stupid salary mistakes with the people McDavid looks like world beaters and then that no other team helps them out by taking bad contracts like Lucic.

And hopefully then Connor will go back home when can become a free agent!

I'll admit it with tremendous trepidation... he is a phenomenal player.

Having said that...,,the Flames will bury them in a playoff series.

After having seen Brodie skate with him stride for stride and make him a non-factor the one game the Flames didn't piss away, I believe so too.

Gulutzan's a smart man, and I'd trust him in a series to come up with a plan. He has a great top 5 D to work with (sorry Bart, not sold on you yet).

Have to say the Flames have also been excellent at allowing very few odd man rushes against ever since the team's transformation.

I don't want to see the Flames v Oilers in the first round because it will be a CBC-McDavid lovefest. The Flames will get no recognition at all. Remember the legend of Eddie Lack? It will be much worse.

Well 2008 Shark series Flames were given a lot of phantom calls including that time they got something like 4 or 5 penalties one after the other. It does happen.
