Around Sunridge Mall used to be a big undeveloped area, The whole area south of Sunridge Blvd for the most part. Everything on Sunridge Way, the Theatres (and that complex) all the hotels by Barlow etc.

Also, the WalMart distribution centre was a big empty field for a long time ,as was everything else betwen 39th Ave and McKnight there. 39th Ave didn't even go all the way through from Barlow to 36th Street.

That Mother's Pizza in Country Hills isn't even close to as good as the Old Mother's Pizzas from the 80s. Bland, doughy, garbage pizza. Don't expect too much if you go.

I went past that corner store a couple years ago. There was a poster of Mary Lou Retton in the window. Like a promotional thing for Pepsi or something, from when she was famous.

They had that giant, suspended in the air tap at the top of the hill, with water coming out. As a kid I couldn't figure out how water could come out when nothing was hooked up to the other end.

That is terrible news. I went once some 6 years back when they first moved, Pizza was the same as were the owners. They must have sold it over the past few years, I never had a bad piece of Mother's pizza on their watch.

Edit: Now that I have Mothers on the brain....the only reason they left Beddington mall was because they were forced out by the building. They got rid of the food court and needed Mother's (and another 5-6 stores) space for the new Spa they put in. If not for that Mothers Beddington location might still exist today.

I miss The Palace as a movie theatre (well, really having any downtown movie theatres), Stampede Wrestling, and the Tower being the highest building downtown.

Anyone else remember Funtier World at the Stampede Grounds?

I miss all my childhood playgrounds. The deathtraps of wood splinters and metal death and gravel pits of blood have all be replaced by cheesy colorful plastic safety toys and recycled rubber matting.

One of the saddest days is when I went back to my elementary school as an adult to go down the slide and found everything gone and replaced.

Is Harry still at the liquor store in CM? I would sit there for hours talking to that guy!

Fabled Table was in the NW in Crowfoot too, in the middle of the mall where Jumbo Video was too. Now there is Shoppers and Rogers there.

The 90s buffet fad was awesome. There's nary a good buffet anymore that isn't some Chinese thing.

I'm a Winnipegger, but I can even tell in the last 12 years how much Calgary's changed. It definitely was a friendlier place to be back then. I miss the Red Devil!

In 10-15 years there will be a thread just like this and people will be saying things like:

- I grew up in Saddleridge/Tuscany/Cranstonvilletowneridgelake and there was nothing but crops and cows out our back door

- When traffic on Deerfoot Trail wasn't so bad

- The city was safe and people were friendly

- The Bow was under construction/was the tallest in the city

- Darryl Janz and Barb Higgins on CFCN

- Radio wasn't crap

- Krispy Kreme store

- When being a Flames fan meant something

- Forest Lawn was a dump and Coventry Hills wasn't

etc.

Tim Hortons donuts ..... the way they used to taste when they made them from scratch every day, several times a day, at every Tim Hortons.

The apple fritter especially, were way better then than now.

I think Darryl Janz is immortal. He's like 90 years old now isn't he?

What happened to all the old reporters on other channels like 2&7? That asian guy, that brunette, etc.
