Default OAR Mixed Doubles Curler Reportedly Fails Drug Test

Why a curler would need to take a banned substance is beyond me...

Same substance Maria Sharapova received her suspension for... if it’s confirmed I hope this ends the talk of Russia being allowed to walk under their own flag at the Closing Ceremony.

Agreed.

Doesn't absolve him of anything though. I think the WADA list is exceedingly restrictive, but it is the same for all.

The only substance that makes a person better at curling is beer.

Yeah, count me as surprised as well.

During the CBC broadcast the Russian is claiming that his drink was spiked in Japan at a pre-Olympic training camp.

That is #1 or #2 on the list of what to say when caught doping.

Why would this be surprising at all? I was watching the cross country skiing this morning and the OAR athlete in that relay event also looked like he was on something. The hockey team's two blowouts after the first game loss are also suspect.

Is this satire? Are you really surprised? The entire nation got banned for systemic doping. Their superstar tennis player...doping.

It wouldn't surprise me if everyone of the russian athletes has doped at some point in their life.

Russians have lost all benefit of the doubt for me... if it were up to me there wouldn’t be any Russians competing in these Olympics at all.

well, #1 on the excuse list is "I didn't read the label and missed an ingredient"
so this is probably #2.

But i'm going to admit that i'm with the athlete on this. Every Russian had to know they would be more scrutinized here than ever before - with people desperate to catch them. So you'd have to be a grade AAA moron to do it. And curling isn't a sport where it's going to be a big help.

And his teammate is his wife. So he screws up her Olympics as well?

I just don't think he's that stupid to have knowingly done it.

We're probably within a generation of The Robot Olympics, so if humans are going to maintain any sort of relevancy when it comes to competition, we'd better start doping as much as possible.

Stop banning Russia, and start jamming needles into the asscheeks of every Canadian athlete. Beat them at their own game. I want to see some hand muscles on our skips. They should be able to curl a horseshoe shaped rink.

Yeah, if you're going to spike someone's drink why a mixed Russian curler?

If you're a curler looking to take out the competition, you should be going for Team Canada.

If you're just looking to embarass Russia, why not one of their higher profile athletes?

It would either have to be a crime of opportunity or a personal vendetta.

The charges are official now

Quote:
The Court of Arbitration for Sport says Russian curler Aleksandr Krushelnitckii, who with his wife Anastasia Bryzgalova claimed bronze in mixed doubles last week in Pyeongchang, is formally charged with doping after his B-sample tested positive for meldonium.

He was probably mad that his wife was stealing all the attention with how incredibly beautiful she is that he wanted to one up her

In all seriousness though, I know it seems 99% lucky that he is indeed guilty but I personally don't wanna say he's 100% guilty yet. It would've been a perfect opportunity for someone to spike his drink in order for him to test positive considering the Russian scandal.

I don't wanna get into conspiracies or anything but I just wanna give him the benefit of the doubt that he might have actually unknowingly taken a banned substance... for now
