TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2012) - Cineplex Entertainment (TSX:CGX) today announced plans to build a new theatre in southeast Calgary at Seton Boulevard and Deerfoot Trail. The 43,000 square foot, 11 screen theatre will feature three VIP auditoriums - the first of their kind in Calgary - as well as an UltraAVX™ auditorium and seven traditional auditoriums. The theatre totals more than 1,900 seats

Cineplex Odeon Seton and VIP Cinemas is expected to open in 2014.

"We are pleased to provide Calgary movie lovers with a cutting-edge theatre and access to the VIP Cinema experience," said Ellis Jacob, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cineplex Entertainment. "There is simply no better way to experience going to the movies."

VIP Cinemas are open to adults only and offer menu service at your seat, licenced auditoriums, a licenced lounge and a dedicated box office. Guests will enjoy large, upgraded seats in an intimate setting, along with the opportunity to reserve seats in advance. VIP Cinemas also offer an expanded menu that includes traditional movie snacks and a wide variety of specialty appetizers.

This sounds really awesome, especially since it's very close to home. The only thing is I'm terrified of what the cost might actually be. I already spend up to 40 bucks to go to a movie (just for my ticket and snacks) which is probably why I'm only average 1 or 2 a year these days.

Bah, that place would be over-run by hipsters every time they show an old movie. No thanks.

Although I love the idea of enjoying a beer with my movie (I tend to sneak a couple in if I'm going with my buddies and not the GF) I have a feeling that this will be pretty pricey. Seeing a 3D movie at the special Empire Extra theater is already like, $18 bucks or something (don't remember exactly) so imagine this will be at least $25 a ticket. Add popcorn and said beer and you're at $40 a person.

Looks like it depends on the theatre. My friend in Edmonton said they couldn't bring it in, but this website says only the one in BC isn't allowed in the theatre.

I'd pay the $15 VIP ticket cost just to get away from all the kids and crying babies... and being able to have a rum & coke while I watch the movie would be a bonus.

I went to one of these in Australia and it was well worth it, think it was $30. Fill out a form before with your drink and food orders, and when you want them delivered, and then grab a big lazy boy type chair with a swing across table. I wouldn't do it all the time, but it was definitely worth it.
