MacLeod is a bit of a lost cause IMO...better to spread the resources to higher yield areas and hopefully learn some valuable lessons that could eventually apply to MacLeod. Doesn't make sense to touch MacLeod until they are done with Deerfoot upgrades (which is another lost-cause IMO and would be better managed by controls (heavily enforced lower speed limits in the busy middle section) than sinking hundreds of millions into the vicious cycle of induced demand...but I digress).

Anyone know any good options out south for donating bikes to charity? I have an older mountain bike and “comfy cruiser” that are in pretty good shape and I’d rather give them to a charity than sell.

Not way down south but Two Wheel View is a great charity for donating bikes too. The fix them up and sell to fund their programming.
They don't do pick ups so you would have to drop them off.

Question for those who go northbound up 10th street NW from Kensington- with the construction is there still a bike lane going north? I know last week the SB bike lane was closed.

Yes there is, they have created a nice separated lane complete with jersey barriers by the upper plateau separation project.
Also check out the size of that piping as you ride by. YYCBike should commandeer the boring machine afterwards and build underground bike tunnels everywhere!

Well that is a debate! The protected part is fine, but once you hit 16th ave all the niceness vanishes, and you have to merge over into the traffic lane and mingle with the bumpers for a few hundred meters. Be prepared for nasty looks.

Cool- thanks guys! Sounds like the same as when I went that way a few weeks ago. Last week I got into a debate with somebody about the SB lane disappearing and she was mad that cyclists were going with traffic.

On Thursday when I came home they were preparing to pave the SB sidewalks, so maybe the bike lane was temporarily blocked.
Also "somebody" can go read her drivers training manual and see that bikes are permitted to ride in traffic on most roads, and she can take her "madness" and get stuffed!

Yeah, the best part was when I asked her if the bikes were keeping up to traffic. I am no Lance Armstrong, but I know I have no problem getting to 50 km/h southbound there. She was just flustered- knowing she was wrong but didn't want to admit it.

A regular #yycbike person on twitter went endo going southbound on 10th a couple of weeks ago, remembered waking up in the ambulance. Doing ok, but won't be riding for a while.

I was hit by a car yesterday. 4 way stop sign intersection. I'm pretty sure I stopped a few seconds before the SUV but when I was in the middle she accelerated out. She said I scared her like she didn't see me then left the scene while someone was helping me to the side of the road. Took an ambulance to Sheldon Chumir.
Both tibia and fibula broken in the left angle and a fractured elbow and a chipped tooth. Bike carbon seems okay but wheel is bent. Will be out of commission for 6+ months. This type of injury often requires pins & plates, hopefully that's not the end of cycling for me in the long run.

Geeez, sorry to hear that. Hope you heal quickly. Scary for all of us that ride bikes.
Was the driver found? Charged?

That’s just brutal man. Drivers need to be more thoughtful about how destructive their vehicle can be and be far more cautious.

Hope you heal up soon Hack. Did the driver really continue on with her day after hitting you? Did you get her info? Any accident with an injury requires they stick around.
On the "bright side" at least this happened towards the end good riding season. Hopefully you're feeling great again when the snow is clear in the spring.

Really hoping someone got that license plate from the SUV that hit you, or hopefully someone with dashcam footage. Nail her with the max penalty possible, which will most likely be pathetic considering injuries you suffered.
