Default Employment agencies for the cognitively impaired

As some of you may know, 9 years ago I had surgery to remove a large, malignant brain tumour. since I finished all of the treatment, I have some cognitive issues that have made it seemingly impossible for me to hold a job

Does anyone know of anay agencies or companies that help with stuff like this?

Thanks in advance!

I used to work at Prospect. They have great people working there and many programs for people with and without disabilities to help them find work.

I don't know the severity of your cognitive issues but there might be a program there that you'd fall under for assistance.

Second Prospect. They're quite accommodating and they'll work with your doctors/occupational therapist if they're still in the picture.

Call 2-1-1 on your phone and ask. It's a resource and referral centre, for all sorts of social, employment, financial, etc etc,run by the Calgary distress centre and united way I believe.

Or scan: https://ab.211.ca/

One of the things I find works for my foster kids who have all kinds of employment barriers is starting with agency work, agencys tend to be more open minded (ie dont really care) about who they hire and either my kid can just work with the agency with no real pressure to turn up when they are having a bad day or ideally they meet an employer who likes them appreciates their skills while also being ok with their drawbacks

I hadn't heard back from Prospect, so called again today and have been connected with an advisor. Thanks KTrain and Sr. Mints.

I've also contacted Vecova, thank you NorthEndZone.

I have a meeting with Prospect on Wednesday and Vecova can't help as they're only set up to help help people that get developmental disability funding.

Now if I could only get someone from social services at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre to phone me back.

Another option is to get in touch with a social worker, this really is their area, they know all the ins and outs.. The one I dealt with was through the brain clinic at the Foothills. I think I also saw one through the CAR program at one point, and both were employed by AHS. Your GP/ specialist might be able to set you up through, say, the Primary Care Network (or something). Good luck.

It has been a long time since i knew any people who worked at Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society (SABIS). They do still have a resource centre which may have useable contact information

It won't help. But I contract for one of the larger more well known Recruiting agencies, and I'm passing your story on to them.

I have a call into social services at the Tom Baker. If I don't hear by Wednesday, I'll chase again.
