Man. Grichuk is absolutely on fire right now. 2 more home runs already today. And 11 RBI’s in the 3 game series.

Guerrero actually hits a line drive in the air and it's right at the CF.
Talk about #### luck.

The Jays with some good situational hitting to add some runs on late in the game is great to see.

Sweep.
Almost back to 500.....just in time to play the Phillies and Rays.
Ugh.

At least after this weekend they’re done with the stinkin’ Rays. If they can split the next 6 games against the Phillies and Rays then I think they’ll be in good shape.

Yup. Half a game out of a playoff spot - survive the next two series with a split (big ask, I know), and they are in great shape.

They really needed this sweep. I love it when decent hitting is held up by excellent pitching.

So far, the Jays have played 5 home games and 16 road games.
Today, they fly home to Buffalo for a 1-day homestand where they have a double header, after which they have to fly 4+ hours to Tampa for a 3 game series against their nemesis.
They have really had it tough so far.

Grichuk had 11 RBI's in that Baltimore series. Wow.

One of the shortest homestands in mlb history - one day, 2 games. The Phillies have played 16 home games and 3 road games. Conversely, the Jays have played 5 home games and 16 road games. Thanks, 2020!
If the Jays sweep today, they are in a playoff spot, no matter what else happens. That would also push them over .500.
Therefore, I expect they will get swept, as that will nicely tee things up for the Flames game later tonight.

One of the biggest 'missing pieces' so far with the rebuild is a great center fielder.

There is some of that this year for sure.
I was looking at some of his stats and there are some underlying signs that things could turn around.
His Batting Average for Balls in play is .238, which is abnormally low. Last year that number for him was .308.
His contact percentage is consistent year over year (75.5% vs 75.6%), his balls in play percentage is up (30.6% vs 32.4%), his home run ratio is up (3.4% vs 2.9%) and his strikeout ratio is down (17.7% vs 16.9%)
So he still hasn't really lived up to the pre-debut hype, but there are some improvments in the underlying numbers for the 21 year old.

Something that hasn't been talked about much is the catchers. Buck is high on them, but I keep waiting to see something to be positive about. I could live with the lack of hitting if they were doing a great job of managing the pitchers, but IMO, they haven't.
Anyway, hopefully they blossom.

Anderson is getting the short end of the stick from the ump here. Basically a belt high pitch being called a ball.

Then, shortly after typing this, McGuire throws it into centerfield from his knees. The catchers haven't thrown anyone out yet this season.

Yeah, this strike zone is a joke.
And of course, it comes when the Jays are DESPERATE to have some starters go deep.

Yeah Jansen especially has just not been able to hit at the major league level. If you're trotting out a career .211 avg with a sub .300 on base at the very least you're punching out base runners or excelling as a game manager.
