Apr 10:
Wolf comes in at 7:11 of the second to relieve starter Braden Holt, who gave up 3 goals on 8 shots. Wolfie gives up 2 goals on 13 shots in a 6-2 loss to Tri-City.

Saint John loses to Moncton 6-3. No points for Francis (-1), or Poirier (-3).

As mentioned above, Zary named first star in a 4-3 win over Victoria, with 4 assists, +2. 7gp/3g/11a/14pts, +6.

Any idea if he's driving the play on those assists?

First goal, Zary strips the puck off an Amerks player retreating behind the net, passes it out front to the slot, right to his teammate (Caedan Bankler-who is pegged to go in the 2nd round of this years draft) for the goal. After that, the highlights cut out.

Two of his assists were primary, two were not, but he always looks super dangerous in the highlights, he has the puck ALOT, and he's always ahead of the play. Very high IQ.

Poirier had no points, +1.

Wolf stops 24 of 28 in a 4-3 loss to Spokane. 1.70GAA, .941%

Apr 14:
Zary with 2 secondary assists,+1 in a 5-0 win over Prince George. 8gp/3g/13a/16pts,+7. Zary is tied for 27th in scoring, but only because he's played a fraction of the games as the players ahead of him. The only other player in the top-30 that has 2ppg is draft-elligible Dylan Guenther.

Zary's teammate, Caedan Bankier (not "Bankler", as it's spelled on many draft simulations) had a goal and an assist, for 9pts in 8g. He's pegged to go in the second or third round of this year's draft. Interestingly enough, he's listed as being 6'2" on the Blazers website, which would make him a bit more attractive than the 6'0"he's listed at on most other sites (he's a W and C).

As far as I can tell (please let me know if I missed any), here's a list of all the Flames prospects in Calgary history who have had 2.0 points per game in the CHL:

-Connor Zary (2021)
-Sam Bennett (2015, only 11 games played that year)
-Sven Baertschi (2012)
Huge Gap
-Jarome Iginla (1996)
-Darryl LaFrance (1995)
Large Gap
-Theoren Fleury (1988)
-Gary Roberts (1986, though only for one of the two OHL teams he played for that year)
-Brian Bradley (1984)
-Dann Quinn (1983)
-Jeff Vaive (1982)
-Bruce Eakin (1982, his 167 points in 66 games is the best-ever for a Flames prospect)
-Denis Cyr (1980)

All of them except Vaive and LaFrance played in the NHL. Most of them were pretty decent players. Hopefully Zary can keep it up.

There's Hnat Domenichelli in 95-96, although he was technically a Whalers prospect....

Apr 16:
Saint John loses 5-4 to Acadie-Bathurst. Both Poirier(+/-0), and Francis (-1) get 2 assists each.
Poirier 32gp/9g/27a/36pts,-3. Tied for third in D scoring.
Francis 32gp/16g/34a/50pts,+5. Francis is 6th in league scoring, but would be third if all games played were equal. Despite where he was drafted, his numbers are better than guys like Mavrik Bourque, and Hendrix Lapierre.

Wolf stops 34 of 37 in a 5-3 win over Seattle. 1.81GAA, .938%

That is just crazy production for a fifth round pick in his Draft+1 season.

Nice to see he is a plus player, even though he should probably be higher than +5 with 50 points on the year.

He could be cheating for offence, or maybe he isn't a great defender. I'm sure the Flames will address it as he develops.

I think that's due to the fact that he played the first half of the season with Cape Breton, who have a horrible overall +/-. They have one plus player on their entire roster, and every player who has played at least 5 games in a minus player.

Francis was a -9 in 15 games with Cape Breton. He's a +14 in 17 games since getting traded to Saint John.

Add to that the fact that playing good defense in the Q is subjective, and quite a different concept than in the two other leagues in the CHL. Q hockey is closer to pond hockey, so +/- maybe doesn’t mean as much. I always laugh when a Q player is said to be “not as interested in playing in their own zone”, because not many guys there are.

A few of the vets were healthy scratched to rest for the playoffs.

Wolf second star with 37 saves on 39 shots in a 6-2 win over Portland. 1.83GAA, .939%

Kamloops got shutout by Vancouver, 4-0-so no points for Zary,-1.
