He was right to take the buyout instead of the trade.. Did he not sign another contract after his buyout to make it worth it even more for him?

He signed a one-year deal with Nashville that lost him money combined with the buyout vs. what he was under contract to make that season.
He had a good year, putting up 62 points, and ended up signing a two year deal with Nashville that ended up making him more with the buyout money than he would have got if he had accepted the trade to the Flames.
It ended up working out for him, but it was a risk at the time.
