I definitely don't protect Giordano.
I expect Treliving to choose Hamonic over Brodie. One has got to go.
I dunno.
Its a mess no matter what.

Backs and Gio will need to waive NTC.

I think Sureloss advises that there are no Ntcs for the Flames that would need to be waived as they aren’t full NMCs

I don't think it is easy for janko playing with both Neal and Bennett, I like Ryan there more

Janko treats 5v5 like he's on the PK. He's learning though. This coaching staff seems to actually be able to make players better than they currently are.

Brodie and Hamonic will be UFA, they won’t be extended before the expansion draft. I imagine Brodie will sign to the highest suitor and will be too rich for the Flames. I expect Hamonic to re-sign after the expansion draft.
Tough call on Gio though, if he has a NMC, not sure if the Flames can leave him unprotected. This is why I think Hanifin might be dealt next year or at the expansion draft, he should have huge value and could probably get the Flames some young assets that won’t need to be protected.
Flames are going to lose a good player. Damn Seattle could be really good with how much depth the good teams have. Taking the 5thr best forward from the Lightning, Flames, Leafs, Jets, Preds could get Seattle a pretty good top 6 off the bat.

Giordano does not have a no-movement clause. No Flame does.
Also, Brodie and Hamonic will be unrestricted free-agents in the summer of 2020. The Seattle expansion draft will take place in the summer of 2021.

You will notice that I did not challenge the fact that players target specific areas to shoot on goalies—although I do think it is difficult to pick spots with much consistency given how fast the game is. What I do reject is this odd notion that somehow Mike Smith is the only goaltender who is negatively affected by this, and that it is an issue that is resolved by swapping him out for a different goalie.

Any team with a player with a NMC have no choice but to protect him

Unless he waives the NMC like Fleury did for the Vegas draft.
However, as already mentioned, no Flames player currently has a NMC and Treliving has not signed any contracts that include one.

From what I've seen, Treliving is trying very hard to prevent having any NMC contracts on the team.
NTCs with 8 - 10 team "no trade" lists seems to be as far as he has been willing to go.
I totally applaud him for that, no team needs to be handcuffed with NMC contracts like Russell and Lucic.

No, it just means that no one can say with certainty that the Flames need 4 goals to win with Smith as opposed to another goalie on a given night.
Another goalie compared to Smith on a body of work over a season? Sure. But there are lots of variables. How much of Talbot’s pay is due to being on that team.

Long way out, but I'm guessing we also go 4+4+1
Gaudreau, Monahan, Lindholm, Tkachuk
Hanifin, Valimaki, Anderson, Kylington
Rittich
We will lose either Gio, Brodie/Hamonic, Bennett, Backlund, Jankowski or our future backup goalie (I doubt Seattle would take a 37 yr old d-man with a 6.75 cap hit, so not likely Gio)

So a good five game stretch then a return to form?
Breaking down the numbers that way doesn't look great.
