A good one-two punch and a player you can count on should the other go down to injury,

He has alternated between Vezina and Mike Smith.

I think a change of scenery and a greatly reduced role would eliminate the Mike Smith part of his game. I think Mike Smith could benefit from a change while still in the race.

The problem is some hack GM will trade a kings ransom for him, then pay him $8million + per season.

This guy has 'Oilers $10M goalie' written all over him

Big name and they need a goalie. With his (assumed) contract demands next year, and now this... a lot of buyers got a little more hesitant. In an effort to save his job, Chia sees a discount here and overpays a little less than normal.

That'll take care of the $10,998,835 of projected cap space they have next year

Has to be a somewhat serious incident, you would think. Starting goaltender for a team fighting to make the playoffs, they aren't going to 'suspend' their own goalie lightly. A loss tonight could leave them without a playoff spot.

Also if they are looking to re-sign or deal, announcing he ####ed up isn't the best strategy.

Could be a message to the rest of the team that what ever he did won't be tolerated, but I think this is a bit more than being mad at a bad game.

I guess it depends on the price we'd have to pay to get him. Can he be had for Smith and a pick? I don't think so. I think Columbus is going to want something more. But it'd be good to get the guy as a rental to be 1b to BSD.

i think the reality is that if the flames brought him in, you have then created a three headed goalie monster which may upset the room. even though it may represent a significant upgrade at the position.

I think everyone assumes you are dealing Smith or demoting him at that point.

Smith gets waived at that point.

Why would they put this out in the public and then say they will deal with it internally. Something is a-brewin'.

They have to explain the benching. And maybe it's a message to Bob.

In the summer, I have a feeling we are going to see Bob's contract not be anything near what he thought he would get. Other than Klowe, how can this group of GM's not see a "do not touch" sign? Maybe he gets a 1 year deal maybe to test drive? I hope we stay away. Lou sure won't put up with anything like what is rumoured on his team.

Yep. Either him or Varlamov. $10M x 10 years. Do it Chia. Leave a long-lasting legacy.

I doubt this is a move to try and open a trade discussion, because it's decreasing his value. It may be a re-signing negotiation tactic I suppose, but even that's far-fetched. I think it is what it is - team discipline.

If we acquire a goalie Mike Smith is going the other way as part of the deal. I think that's just a given. I'd only have interest in Bobrovsky as a rental 1B for the rest of the season/playoffs. Even if there is a discount on him due to whatever incident this is I think he may cost more then I'd want to give up for a rental goalie.

Wait, what? According to PepsiFree and a couple others, Varlamov is by far the best goalie out there!
