Flames: Are terrible for a long time but finally have a 50 win season and finish 2nd overall in the NHL

Fans: Let’s trade our #1C (with no realistic upgrade availabe) and our best player because they were bad in April and Johnny might not be here in 5 years

It’s like some guy of you are addicted to sucking.

I think many people don't think that Gaudreau is the type of player that will carry a team in the playoffs. I guess the real question is, "What do the Flames think"?

If they agree, and also believe perhaps that there is risk of Johnny moving on in 3 years, it may well be a good time to move him if they get the right return.

What do the Flames thing of Nolan Patrick? I have no idea, but if Calgary believes he's a #1 centre in waiting, there could very well be a deal there. Trading for Patrick when his value is lower makes sense if you think the upside is still there.

Gaudreau lost his two reliable snipers when Monahan and Lindholm somehow simultaneously lost their noses for the net at the tail end of the season.

They were both probably performing at 30-40% of the standard they set for 2/3 of the season.

You could see that first round coming from a ways out. They hadn't been game changers for a month or two going into it. It's hard to suddenly flip a switch when you haven't been feeling it for a while.

But we know those three have the ability in them to be dominant. Can they be that at the right time of the year if given a couple more cracks at it? Maybe.

The Blues were wandering the desert a bit before they caught fire this spring. Very easily could've sold of Tarasenko or Pietrangelo and done and overhaul mid season, but they didn't. Look where patience sometimes will get you.

It's not like these guys are happy or content with how it all unraveled.

I think we should continue to look for upgrades to our second line, specifically the 2C position, but I think it's worth giving the top guys another shot.

Maybe a tougher and speedier supporting cast is what's needed. A line that can 'lean' on the opponent would certain go a long way. If we can make that second line meaner on the ice, not just between whistles with MT's antics, I think that would be a big step.

Hellooooo Tyler Johnson.

Top 6 right shooting RW/C

Maybe the Flames can flip the Brodie return for him.

I hadn't really thought of Brandon Saad but the reports of him being available have me very intrigued.

I’d protect Monahan, Tkachuk, Lindholm, Patrick, Hanifin, Valimaki, Provorov, Andersson. That would leave Giordano unprotected going into his 37 year old season and Backlund unprotected going into his 31 year old season. Sam Bennett would also be unprotected.

I’d be okay with that arrangement. I’m sure lots of Flames fans would hate that. Giordano will win the Norris Trophy after all.

Left field idea here:

Guadreau
Monahan

For:

Hall
Hischier

Assuming we sign both. Thoughts?

Is it better to trade Brodie at the draft or to wait to find out what happens with the big UFA defensemen (Karlsson, Myers, Gardiner, Edler) and look to make trades with the team's who miss out on those guys.

James Mirtle was on the fan today and mentioned that Florida might look to buyout Reimer or trade him.

I wonder if they would trade him at 50% retained for a low pick.

Reimer at $1.7m to be a 1B would be an alright option and might be better and cheaper than any goalie that will be available to us in UFA.

3.09/0.900 is pretty bad...even for Florida...

The thought of PK Subban with Mark Giordano is pretty cool and PK’s term remaining is similar to much of our current core. What would it take??

Brodie + Neal + 1st For Subban

Is that fair? Is the 1st round pick too much? Not enough? What if we added Czarnik as well if they needed a little more for Subban? PK would be a polarizing character to add into the locker room and is truly a fan favourite every where he goes I think he could mesh well with our current roster.

Giordano - Subban
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Andersson
Kylington - Yelesin

Quite an incredible collection which would allow us to trade and recoup on Hamonic as well for more forward help if needed.

Big bet on Hischier and Hall staying healthy, I don't hate it assuming Hall signs but would be a franchise altering trade.

You are right, it's not great, but his save % was .913 and .920 the previous seasons.

We also don't have much if any cap space for a goalie, and I don't think we will be able to sign a goalie for a 1B position any cheaper than $1.7m.

That would be on par with the Gilmour trade as one of the worst trades in NHL history.

Gaudreau is better than Hall by a fair bit, and Monahan is better than Hischier by a country mile.

Take Monahan out of the deal and I would think about it.

Trading players like Monahan and Gaudreau is always risky. Players are looked upon as not being able to deliver, or being drags on their team - and then suddenly their not.

Look at Ryan O'Reilly right now.

Look at Matt Duchene this year.

If the Flames are going to trade one or both, then they better be sure it's the right move.

Tarensenko as well. Hell, the whole Blues roster was up for grabs at one point this season.

I doubt there is a GM in the business who would prefer Monny over the 20 year old Hischier.
